However, with these changes, the Engineering Services Department continues to communicate with all departments, assuring mail correspondences are being received and delivered to designated areas in a timely and efficient manner.
The department is currently looking to fill the Mail Clerk position within the Integrated Facility Services Division to provide postal and delivery services to satisfy the mailing demands of the city organization.The Mail Clerk is crucial to the processing, preparation, and delivery of mail throughout the City of Raleigh. This position maintains a precise daily schedule for the delivery of mail and ensures items are mailed and delivered efficiently. A good Mail Clerk works well in high-pressure environments, has good computer skills to process mail and verbal communication and interpersonal relations for cohesiveness between team members, all while working with minimal supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities Retrieves mail from multiple post office locations and picks up departmental mail. Sorts and delivers incoming mail by department and/or employee to ensure timely distribution. Sorts and delivers interdepartmental mail. Provides mail delivery and pickup services to defined routes. Processes misdirected or returned mail. Processes outgoing mail for postage and pickup by external carrier timelines. Collects data for reports. Tracks and maintains and logs of mailing and performs accurate data entry as needed. Process monthly postage invoices and reconcile monthly charges. Maintains files, logs and records on accountable mail (Certified, Registered, Insured articles, special mails). Answers mailroom telephone and emails in accordance with city procedures. Utilizes software mail applications where applicable. Stocks supplies needed for the mailroom. Work may require use of dollies or mail carts and package sizes may vary from envelopes to boxes of various sizes and weight. Keeps manager informed of operational efficiencies and potential problems. Operates city vehicle to make deliveries and pickups. Works during unfavorable weather conditions when city offices are open.Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience:High School Diploma or GED and one year of related experience.ORAn equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.Licensing/Certifications: Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.Additional InformationKnowledge / Skills: Knowledge of USPS regulations related to caller service and PO box pickups, bulk mail processing, and certified mail handling Must have good working knowledge MS-Office: Word, Excel, Outlook Ability to appropriately handle confidential and highly sensitive material Ability to effectively work individually or in a team environment Competency in performing multiple functional tasks Attention to detail Excellent communication skills both verbal and written Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work under pressure and attend to details Ability to work independently Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Knowledge of safe mail handling and general safety precautionsAdditional Information:Required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date.ADA and Other Requirements:Positions in this class typically require: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.Medium Work:Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Working Conditions:Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment.
