Job Description

Summary: Sets up and operates conventional and special purpose machines to machine castings to customer specifications. Once trained, this position will work our 2nd shift, which is normally 3pm-11pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Starts up, operates and shuts down the assigned machine tool.
  • Ensures that castings are machined to print specifications.
  • Completes all required production paperwork.
  • Uses gauges commonly associated with machining type work.
  • Reads and writes programs for machining processes.
  • Performs daily TPM maintenance.
  • Inspects all lifting devices for condition and wear.
  • Wears required safety equipment.
  • Follows job work instructions and training matrix, where applicable.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Manufacturing/classroom training at tool manufacturers or technical school.
  • On-the-job training until competence is shown in machining castings.
  • Blue print reading.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of computers.

Certificates and Licenses:

Fork truck license

Certificates for any outside manufacturing/classroom training

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; outdoor weather conditions; extreme heat (non-weather); risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
