Transports equipment and materials to assigned locations. Primarily operates all mechanical equipment necessary to enable the installation and maintenance of pipelines, valves, hydrants, services and appurtenances. Maintains prescribed records and reports for equipment. Job functions similar to Machine Operator in Energy Operations. Work Schedule: The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday. The typical work hours are 7:00am to 4pm, with some overtime throughout the year. Days and hours of duty may vary as required or under unusual circumstances. Could include weekends.

ResponsibilitiesPrimarily Operates mechanical equipment such as backhoes to load, unload, and install materials and or equipment as required. Can operate other equipment as required and as qualified. Occasionally operates motorized vehicles such as flat beds, dump trucks, pickup trucks and cars as required. Occasionally delivers and picks up equipment and materials and transports them to and from the job sites. Maintains, service, make adjustments and repairs, and or assist in servicing all mechanical equipment operated as required including, but not limited to lubrication, cooling systems, hydraulic system, and cleaning. Must be familiar with all safety procedures for the mechanical equipment, machinery, and motorized vehicles operated. Directs laborers and other operators as required. Completes required records and reports as required. Operates other mechanical equipment and tools in relief assignments as required. Ability to operate electronic devices. Ability to work outside normal business hours as conditions and the needs of the company warrant. Performs other duties and/or activities as assigned.
QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED. Must maintain a valid State of Indiana Commercial Driver's License, Class A with air brake endorsement. Work in various positions, which require but are not limited to sitting, bending, standing, walking, lifting and climbing. Adhere to Utility's safety rules applying to the work and be able to recognize and guard against potential hazards. Must communicate with customers in a courteous and tactful manner. Work in hot and cold weather. Must work outside of normal business hours as conditions and the needs of the company warrant. After proper training, must be able to use a computer device for time recording, work order entry and or other uses. Ability to deal with continuous shifting of assignments to various types of equipment and work. Must communicate with customers in a courteous and tactful manner. Must have ability to work well in a team-oriented environment. Ability to conduct investigations. Requires the ability to read and work from maps and interpret documents such as work orders, sketches, operating and maintenance procedure manuals and records in order to perform essential duties and responsibilities. Ability to complete verbal and written instructions and create accurate, legible and concise written records or reports of findings and completed work. Must be knowledgeable of the various jurisdictional requirements for traffic control, street cuts, backfill and repair. Must have a good working knowledge of the methods used in shoring and bracing excavations, and the rigging procedures for handling heavy material and equipment. Must be certified as a Competent Person and have knowledge and understanding regarding the safe practice and use of shoring and bracing equipment. Must have a well-rounded knowledge of the mechanical equipment, machinery, and motorized vehicles that are typical of pipeline installation, maintenance, repair and transportation work for safe operations, care, and maintenance of the above. Knowledge of installation, repair, replacement and cleaning of pipelines, valves, services and hydrants. Knowledge of goods and materials being transported and used on the job. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Additional education, certifications, licensing, experience and knowledge that would enhance the incumbent's ability to perform the job.
