LOGISTICS PLANNER (Logistics Engineer) JOB DESCRIPTION
Senior level role required in support of logistics planning for an inbound, automotive manufacturing environment in North America. This position will be directly assigned to supporting a specific region of N.A. plants, with domestic and international routing responsibilities. Performs a variety of tasks, applying extensive logistics knowledge and judgement to accomplish goals. This role involves leading various projects to identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities in the logistics network. A qualified candidate for this position will have a fantastic opportunity to be involved in projects viewed as a key success factor in the development of a world class supply chain. Success will gain senior level executive recognition with exposure to other broad, supply chain opportunities.
This is a Hybrid position within our Logistics Planning team. The role will allow employee to work remote occasionally, but will also require onsite work 2-4 days weekly. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the Southfield, MI office location. Reports to Manager, Supply Chain Services.
Responsibilities:
- Daily interaction with client plant materials analysts, logistics operations/procurement, carriers, and suppliers to drive continuous improvement opportunities in the area of inbound logistics.
- Utilize data analysis skills and established systems/processes to support the plant materials analysts in the maintenance of part-level container data.
- Support logistics network optimization activities with plant-specific requirements, operational feasibility reviews, and implementation support.
- Design and manage plant logistics costs to budget; analyze data to identify non-conformances to plan and ensure corrective actions identified & implemented.
- Analysis of cross dock material flow, facility utilization, common intra-regional process application.
- Analysis of transportation route utilization & opportunity identification.
- Travel required +/- 20% (U.S, Mexico, Canada).
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; Logistics, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management or Industrial Engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in lean logistics responsibility in a JIT environment.
- Ability to follow-up, bring projects to completion and meet deadlines.
- Experience and knowledge with Lean Material Flow.
- Excellent communication skills to teach, monitor and report logistics activities. Training and workshop facilitation experience a plus.
- Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications for data analysis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Experienced in data mining from various FBAP and TMS systems.
- Working knowledge of supplier ordering, logistics and material scheduling.
- Working knowledge of supply chain modeling, simulation, and software systems.
- Bilingual in Spanish (both oral and written) preferred.
· Experience in international logistics and material management responsibility a plus.
