501267 Link 16/Communications Subject Matter Expert
Work Location: Huntsville, AL

IronMountain Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Link 16/Communications Subject Matter Expert for the Huntsville, AL area supporting International Apache in the Apache Attack Helicopter Project Management Office (AAH-PMO). Candidates must have a good knowledge of the Apache helicopter and/or other US Army Aviation rotary-wing platforms and must be highly motivated, a self-starter and be able to handle multiple tasks. Candidates should have excellent program management, organizational, and communication skills with experience in aircraft integration of Link 16 and comms. The ideal candidate for this position must be able to work independently, often acting without direct supervision, and be able to build strong relationship across multiple project offices with all levels of government employees.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Train S-6, Aviation and Maintenance personnel on cryptographic keying techniques and Link 16 operations.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot Link 16 Networks for Apache use.
  • Understand the Link 16 Pulse Deconfliction Server and submit Temporary and Radio Frequency Assignments.
  • Update Link 16 terminal software as required.
  • Be able to present Link 16 material to the PMO and FMS customer personnel.
  • Review specifications, requirements, and technical reports for voice and data communications equipment including radios, modems, amplifiers, antennas, and associated interface equipment.
  • Technical understanding of radio frequency (RF) transmission and reception including frequency bands and modulation techniques.
  • Technical understanding of RF interference and its potential effects on communications equipment.
  • Manage development and engineering projects as assigned.
  • Lead and/or support special team/studies and perform special projects/assignments as assigned.
  • Prepare and deliver briefings and written reports to management, customers, and other higher-level personnel.
  • Assess program cost, schedule, and performance risks related to your assigned engineering projects.
  • Provide recommendations, findings, and decisions to program PM and senior management in the accomplishment of various Program objectives.
  • Keep PM informed of technical status of assigned tasks, program status, significant program events, controversial issues, program reviews, and other relevant issues.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use tools or controls; normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs); and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.

Education and General Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Software, Systems, etc.) is preferred with at least ten (10) years of experience in Systems Engineering.
  • Experience and knowledge of
    • DoD acquisition and life cycle management policies, procedures, and practices
    • Communication integration process and testing requirements and timelines.
    • Frequency allocation and obtaining frequency authorization for FMS customers.
    • Various bands of radiation and how they are utilized on the aircraft.
    • Link 16 (MIL-STD-6016) and Variable Message Format (VMF) (MIL-STD-6017) messaging, J-Voice, and interoperability testing.
    • Experience integrating airborne radios, power amps, and antennas.
    • Understanding of aircraft Internal Communication System (ICS).
    • Current and near future waveforms (DAMA SATCOM, SATURN, MUOS SATCOM, etc)
    • DOD-AIMS certification procedures
    • Aircraft and component level testing
    • AMSA/other Army Aviation PM comms background
    • Apache comms architecture
  • Thorough knowledge of Link 16 cryptographic keying processes and Network design required.
  • LUM or MAJIC course completion is required.

Clearance Requirements: The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance is required.
