Position Summary

ARC is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Life Coach to join its Lorena Street Transitional Housing Program in East Los Angeles, CA, a 36-bed California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) funded re-entry program for individuals who have served longer-term sentences. This is a full-time position that supports members in obtaining an optimal quality of life by offering guidance; we believe in the notion of 'thriving, not surviving,' and our Life Coaches must embody this as well. This position reports directly to the Program Manager and works a schedule based on the needs of the members/caseload, including occasional weekends and holidays.

The Life Coach will be focused on providing life skills by assessing needs, offering case management, and providing appropriate referrals as needed. This is a challenging position that requires a self-motivated multi-tasker with a strong case-management and/or residential services provision background. Candidates with lived experience and a strong passion for and commitment to social justice reform are preferred.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and member services team members to create a comprehensive schedule of activities specific to each member, to include, but not limited to, employment, education, recreation, physical/mental health, spiritual growth, life skills, and/or any other activities to enhance the well-being of the member.
  • Maintain familiarity with current and new contracts to ensure compliance with funding source performance targets and deliverables.
  • Document case notes, individual service plans, intakes, group notes, incident reports, etc.
  • Case manage members to ensure all goals/needs are being met and documented in required databases weekly.
  • Ensure that members comply with member agreements and house guidelines.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all members, staff, and guests/visitors. Support the guest/visitor policy and intervene where necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Help develop and maintain support groups, activities, and mentorship programs within the housing community.
  • Attend all ARC staff meetings, case conferences, organizational gatherings, retreats, and conferences as requested.
  • Oversee/facilitate regular member meetings on-site in collaboration with team members.
  • Outreach to members through regular in-person visits, providing one-on-one meetings, and facilitating groups to support positive member growth.
  • Coordinate care and interventions with member services team members when signs of members falling off education/employment/program responsibilities are observed.
  • Provide education, support, and referrals to residents about available support if determined to be beyond the scope of the ARC Transitional Housing Program.
  • Refer individual and group counseling to members through available therapy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; High School diploma or equivalent, minimum, with 2 years' experience providing case management with a similar population.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with the criminal justice or a related population.
  • Experience with case file documentation, group documentation, and creating case management plans.
  • Residential experience preferred.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and insurable by ARC’s carrier.
  • This position requires clearance from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
  • Keyboard data entry is required

The Life Coach at the Lorena Street Transitional Housing Program should also have the following experience and attributes:

  • Flexible and a self-starter, with the ability to multitask while also being highly detail-oriented.
  • Excellent people and communication skills, with experience in collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to ARC’s mission.
  • Strong and effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary/Benefits

  • Pay rate is $24.04 to $26.44 doe.
