The Licensing and Royalty Accountant is responsible for ensuring royalty reports and payments are processed accurately and timely. This role is responsible for ensuring that the contract and royalty systems are always updated so that calculations and reporting of royalties are accurate. The Licensing and Royalty Accountant reconciles all royalty general ledger accrued balances and provides financial information to Account Payables for processing payments to licensors. This role works closely with internal and external business partners. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working in a similar and fast paced environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Consistently reports all required information to licensors and ensures contract management and royalty systems are up to date with all required payments & deliverables for each contract
- Prepare and process monthly and quarterly royalty statements
- Prepare and enter monthly accruals
- Prepare monthly royalty cash forecasts for the FP&A team
- Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
- Work closely with external licensors on monthly/quarterly sales reports, online data submissions and other required information and assist with issues or concerns that may arise
- Work closely with internal licensing department and operational teams (e.g. Embroidery and Customer Service) to ensure compliance with our contractual agreements
- Assist with set up of new contracts and update existing contracts in contract management and royalty systems
- Proactively question existing procedures to identify and implement process improvements to gain efficiencies and streamline workflows
- Maintain compliance and evidence of compliance with internal controls and policies
- Coordinate royalty audits with internal teams to respond to auditor inquiries
- Assist in various non-routine assignments and ad-hoc reports
COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to operate independently and manage multiple priorities and time sensitive projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external parties
- Advanced level Excel skills - must be able to organize data, utilize pivot tables, write complex formulas, design professional reports, and extract data into Excel
DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree in business, accounting, or related field with 3+ years of Accounting/Finance experience
- Experience reading/comprehending and summarizing license contracts to determine proper royalty treatment and associated accounting
- Microsoft Dynamics and ERP experience preferred
