POSITION:Licensed Mental Health Clinician

REPORTS TO: Director of Health Services

STATUS: Exempt, Full-Time, Limited Term

COMPENSATION: $100,000 to $120,000 Annually (Retention Bonus Eligible)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Clinician with a specialization in working with LGBTQ+ youth/transitional-age youth, families, and adults to provide onsite and telehealth therapeutic services via appointments and walk-in basis, at multiple locations. The Licensed Mental Health Clinician will closely collaborate with Health Services program staff to provide comprehensive care for clients. They will also work with other Center staff and partner organizations to design and implement a series of workshops aimed at supporting the workforce development of peer support workers and community advocates. The Licensed Mental Health Clinician must be able to work independently and with absolute confidentiality and discretion. Some evenings and weekends are required. This position must have a positive and supportive attitude toward the agency and its overall success. This is an 18-month time-limited position based on available grant funds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct clinical intakes and develop clinical and cultural formulations using a trauma-informed and strength-based approach.
  • Support clients with developing their own individualized treatment goals.
  • Provide LGBTQ+ affirming individual, family, couples, and group therapy and other therapeutic services for LGBTQ+ youth/transitional-age youth.
  • Provide crisis intervention and counseling to stabilize clients experiencing acute episodes or major life disturbances.
  • Evaluate for serious emotional disturbance and arrange for observation or admission into a facility with a higher level of care, if deemed clinically appropriate.
  • Collaborate effectively with psychiatric prescribers and indigenous healers/practitioners to ensure optimal care and outcomes.
  • Provide direct client services through a trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming, culturally competent care, and harm reduction lens.
  • Work in close collaboration with program staff to coordinate client whole-person and continuity of care, foster connections with natural support networks, and facilitate utilization of community-based resources.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team discussions, as appropriate, to support clients’ achieving their individualized treatment goals.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as documentation in the electronic health record and the Center’s database.
  • Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of clients, and practice within the confines of the law and in an ethical manner.
  • Manage scheduling of client appointments, including allowing same- and next-day appointments for more urgent needs, to the extent possible.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the design and implementation of a workforce development internship/workshop series focused on behavioral health peer support workers and advocates.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Mental Health issues and resources for LGBTQ+ youth/transitional age youth and their families, including knowledge of the spectrum of gender and sexual identities and transgender issues.
  • Collaborate with the Center’s Health Services Team and Leadership Team to expand upon and innovate ways to meet the Mental Health needs of LGBTQ+ youth and transitional-age youth.
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Passion for the Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ people thrive and a commitment to the long-term sustainability of the organization
  • Experience working with adolescents, families, and adults including clinical experience, and familiarity with the needs and issues presented by the HIV-impacted and LGBTQ communities
  • Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and familiarity with issues of relevance to LGBTQ+ people including a demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and abilities in an intersectional environment
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and County laws and regulations applicable to Mental Health practice and public health programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a tactfully assertive manner; superior spelling, grammar, and AP style copy editing skills are required
  • Strong critical thinking skills with proven attention to detail, organization, and timely independent decision-making.
  • Ability to synthesize information and manage competing priorities and constituencies.
  • Strong political acumen and ability to handle agency information and correspondence with strict confidentiality and discretion.
  • A creative problem-solver, using sound judgment to prioritize tasks and limit distractions.
  • Proactive and self-motivated under tight deadlines, with the ability to take direction and function under high pressure.
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance. Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends with a variable schedule and occasional short-trip travel.
  • Values strict confidentiality, tact in the workplace, and proper social media etiquette.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required; must also be able to type 40-50 WPM and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and other communication platforms.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At minimum, must possess a master's degree in social work or Marriage and Family Therapy and be licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and in good standing upon hire.
  • Access to reliable automobile transportation with a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is required. This position will be required to run errands, pick up and deliver staff and materials on occasion throughout the Sacramento region.
  • Proficiency in English is required; the ability to speak/read/write/translate in languages other than English is a plus.
  • Offers of employment may be contingent on satisfactory results of a criminal history
