POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director, the Acupuncturist will perform all treatments and services in accordance with the State of California acupuncture licensing requirements. The Licensed Acupuncturist will provide acupuncture to patients, public, caregivers, and staff during business hours of the Shingle Springs Health & Wellness Center. Duties include but are not limited to: review of medical record, health maintenance, illness, injury, and diagnosis as reported, and obtaining informed consent from patient. Actively partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Taking a detailed case history; that may involve questioning patients about their physical and emotional health history, lifestyle, and diet.
- Making a diagnosis and devising a personalized treatment plan.
- Explaining the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and responding to their questions and concerns.
- Providing an accurate diagnosis, supported by medical findings based on standardized examination and techniques generally accepted by the medical community. This includes TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Western diagnostic techniques.
- Treating by inserting fine needles into the skin at particular locations to stimulate the energy flow along meridians (energy channels) and the body's own healing response.
- Incorporating other treatments, such as moxibustion (burning herbs to warm insertion points), electro-acupuncture (stimulating insertion points with small electric currents), acupressure (to loosen and relax muscles), and cupping.
- Providing medically necessary acupuncture, consults, assessments, and treatments when requested/authorized by family physicians/specialists.
- Providing quality treatment to cure or relieve the medical condition causing the patient's complaint.
- Documenting all treatments and patient's response to acupuncture therapy on patient's chart.
- Refers patients to other health care professionals, if needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine or Oriental Medicine, or equivalent education/experience required.
- License to practice acupuncture in the state of California required.
- Maintain currency of Acupuncture licensure in the State of California.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Must possess at least two years of experience practicing in a clinical environment.
- Sensitivity to diverse and underserved populations is required.
- Post job offer: CPR/BLS certification, TB test, and annual flu shot (during flu season) are required as a condition of employment, unless a medical/religious accommodation request is provided. Hepatitis B Vaccine will be offered at no cost to employees, but it is not required.
DRUG SCREEN
Shingle Springs Rancheria requires the successful completion of a drug screening of all potential Tribal employees prior to being hired. The Tribe recognizes that the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana. The Tribe is located on federally owned trust land and complies with federal laws. Therefore, marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for THC.
Shingle Springs Rancheria recognizes a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, and employees will be required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing. Employees may be selected for alcohol / drug testing upon reasonable suspicion, and upon any/all accidents.
BACKGROUND CHECK
Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and fingerprinting prior to being hired. Verification of previous employment and education will also be conducted after the interview if an offer of employment is being considered.

NATIVE PREFERENCE
Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
