We have one (1) exciting opportunity for a Library Technician IIIto serve our San Jacinto, CA campus. Under the general direction of the Administrator overseeing Library Services, the Library Technician III is responsible for all components of circulation services, including directing the functions of the circulation desk and the circulation module of the automated library system and training and leading lower level staff. The Library Technician III may also oversee and participate in Technical Services processes related to Acquisitions and Cataloging.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedule, maintain and trouble-shoot circulation functions within the automated library system
  • Act as liaison with automated library software vendor to resolve circulation module problems
  • Train, schedule and assign tasks for lower level staff
  • Oversee the creation of over-dues and billings of library materials
  • Oversee the placement and release of financial obligation holds
  • Resolve conflicts with students and faculty members
  • Reconcile and deposit fine monies
  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of circulation procedures
  • Submit purchase requisitions for circulation supplies
  • Coordinate and create policies for the operation of the reserve materials collection
  • Train faculty in the use of online reserve functions
  • Maintain library statistics and prepares reports accordingly
  • Oversee the automated inventory of library materials
  • Evaluate and request content modifications on library website
  • Assist students in the use of the Library, including print and electronic reference sources
  • Attend workshops, conferences, seminars, etc. to maintain currency in the field
  • Oversee and participate in the fulfillment of interlibrary loan requests, and assist in developing interlibrary loan policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the check in and maintenance of the print periodical collection
  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs of library equipment
  • Participate in the acquisition of library materials under the guidance of professional librarians
  • Coordinate the processing of new library materials for insertion into the library collection
  • Oversee shipping of library materials and supplies
  • Coordinate completion of cataloging tasks performed by lower level staff

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND, ABILITIES
The incumbent should possess knowledge of:

  • Read and write at a level appropriate to the assigned duties
  • Spell, punctuate and use correct grammar
  • Make arithmetic computations where necessary
  • Meet and deal tactfully with the public, staff and students
  • Operate standard office equipment including copiers, calculators and computer system
  • Perform difficult and complex work requiring the application of technical library skills
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including those from a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Three (3) years of college-level coursework (attach transcript); AND
  2. Three (3) years of progressively responsible, professional experience in sub-professional library work; INCLUDING
    1. Two (2) years of lead experience in circulation, pre-cataloging, or simple cataloging
  3. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Substitutions for meeting the minimum qualifications are allowed, as follows:
  • College-level coursework in a related field may be substituted for the professional experience on the basis of nine (9) semester units for one year of experience up to a maximum of one (1) year
  • Additional specialized experience that will demonstrate that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge shown above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis up to a maximum of one (1) year

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use library automation systems, digital resources and other relevant productivity software in a library environment to produce documents, presentations, worksheets, databases, charts and graphs
  2. Familiarity with library technical processes such as acquisitions and cataloging
  3. Prior experience in approaching work and interaction with colleagues and/or students in an equity-minded manner. Ability to promote an inclusive and welcoming work/education environment
  4. College-level course work in library science/technology and/or relevant work experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with travel from site to site. The incumbent must be able to work in a fast paced office environment with background noise and a high stress level.
  • Physical: Primary function requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and travel from site to site; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 20 pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
  • Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.
  • Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Initial salary placement for this position is from Step 1 to Step 3 depending on the amount of reasonably related experience. The job is a Classified position, Level 17, working full time, 40 hours per week, 12 months. The position serves District-Wide; applicants may be assigned to any district facility. The current work schedule is Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm and Friday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. Work hours are subject to change depending on department needs.

A twelve-month probationary period must be successfully completed before the selected candidate is considered a permanent employee of the District. The District provides a contribution towards medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Vacation and sick leave are provided. PERS participation is required for retirement eligible employees. As a condition of employment candidates will be required tocomplete alive scanfor fingerprint clearance and a Tuberculosis (TB) test/Tuberculosis Risk Assessment form developed by the State Department of Public Health.
