Position Description
Harris County Public Library (HCPL) - History What began in 1921 and the years following as a collection of small libraries housed in stores, post offices and private homes has grown into a system of 26 branch buildings, 2 technology service centers, and 2 partner locations offering collection/circulation services. HCPL operates branches in unincorporated parts of Harris County and cities which do not have their own library systems.
Library Technician I - Programming - Maker Space Overview:
This position is responsible for assisting customers with digital resources and instructional technologies and supporting the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the library Maker Space. Creating and promoting Maker and Innovation Lab and computer instruction for adults. Provide customer service and basic reference-related information. Exemplify the high standards and expectations for the library system in its daily operations and services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Supports the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the library Maker Space and Innovation Lab sharing knowledge of library resources to assist patrons with information, materials, and instructional operation.
  • Maintains awareness of the current technology and innovation trends.
  • Researches for grant opportunities to support maker and innovation activities.
  • Conducts equipment inventory and maintains inventory documentation.
  • Makes, plans, and delivers Maker Lab activities and instruction for adults.
  • Develop and teach adult technology classes using Microsoft Suite and other digital technology.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with local schools, government, and community organizations.
  • Use social media to promote the programs, collections, and library services to all ages in the community.
  • Collaborate with the branch team to develop, implement, and market programs in the library and attend community outreaches.
  • Attends and participates in committees, professional conferences, and staff development and training to enhance skills and develop professional knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • One (1) year of program experience (e.g., activities for all ages)

OR
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three (3) years of program experience (e.g., activities for all ages)

OR
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Five (5) years of program experience (e.g., activities for all ages)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficient knowledge of modern specialized equipment and applicable software technologies, e.g., Platforms, Operating Systems, Standard Software Packages Including Office 365, Electronic Database Management Systems, Electronic Mail, Digital Media Platforms, Internet Browsers, and Desktop Publishing.
  • Excel in customer service skills of empathy, good communication, and problem-solving
  • Proficient with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and digital devices.
  • Ability to work with technology and equipment such as Laser cutters, 3D printers, and Cricut.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers and common decimals
  • Skill in self-discipline, dependability, and ability to work independently
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.

Salary:
  • $18.25 Per Hour
  • Paid Biweekly

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This job typically operates in a professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
  • Some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
