The Kenton County Public Library is seeking a part-time Library Associate in Patron Experience who will leverage creativity and innovation to engage patrons in our collections and services.
The Library Associate position is a customer service position that assists with basic circulation, reference, and readers advisory at the three primary service points (circulation, reference, and the children's department) at the Erlanger Branch and at other locations as needed. Additionally, this position assists the Patron Experience Librarian/Collection Specialist with organizing, maintaining, and promoting the collection. Hours are varied and evening and weekend work is required.
Responsibilities:
- Serve the public in a friendly, professional manner and demonstrate understanding of public library operations.
- Provide desk coverage at all public services desks; assist patrons of all ages with reference questions, readers' advisory, and technology support.
- Proficiently handle all circulation duties, including desk opening and closing procedures, use of all patron and circulation forms, patron fines and daily receipts.
- Assist Patron Experience Librarian/Collection Specialist with branch collection organization and maintenance.
- Assist in collection development and maintenance tasks such as weeding.
- Create and maintain displays and reading lists to promote materials in the collection for all age groups.
- Assist with Patron Experience initiatives by working to create engagement opportunities for patrons.
- Work to ensure that the library's spaces are comfortable, attractive, stimulating, and welcoming.
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative in organizing and prioritizing work.
- Enforce Code of Conduct and other policies/procedures proactively and impartially.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with the public
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to bend, kneel, and reach to retrieve library materials
- Ability to carry items weighing 20-30 lbs. and push book trucks or bins weighing 100 lbs.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required.
