Description
City of Lynchburg is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a Part-time Library Assistant I position. Provide excellent customer service as a paraprofessional in a busy Library environment. Must be available to work days, evenings and weekends. Must have a sense of humor.
Essential Duties
- Provides general library services, including registering patrons, checking materials in and out, placing holds, collecting fines, etc.;
- Assists patrons with use of public access terminal and personal devices, including internet searches, job applications, email, etc.;
- Processes newspapers and magazines and reports on problems with late or missing periodical issues;
Assists patrons with printing, photocopies, and faxes;- Performs reader’s advisory service;
- Processes incoming and outgoing books and legal materials;
- Answers informational and directional questions by telephone or in person;
- Assists patrons with online legal research;
- Shelves books and legal materials;
- Operates standard office equipment, including an automated library system terminal;
- Must be able to think creatively;
- Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
- When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has limited supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate’s Degree. Library, bookstore or other relevant customer service experience preferred. Knowledge of Library automated systems preferred.
