Weekend availability required.
Position Summary:
Performs para-professional library work in one or more of the service areas in the library and may include lead work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity.
- Performs all customer service desk duties: check-in and check-out, fines and fees, reader’s advisory, customer registration, reference inquiries, answering phones, etc.
- Provides general technology services assistance including helping with the copier/printer/scanner equipment, online searches, and navigating the HCPLC website.
- Sorts, processes, shelves, weeds, and organizes incoming and outgoing materials including delivery, book drop, returns, etc.
- Supports librarians and associates with programming and other clerical duties.
- May open and close the library.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of library services, operations, and practices
- Knowledge of library circulation policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Knowledge of and experience implementing current technology in libraries.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office and other applicable software.
- Ability to operate technical library equipment.
- Ability to utilize business mathematics.
- Ability to attend to details regarding library materials.
- Ability to attend to diverse elements simultaneously.
- Ability to work without close supervision and exercise judgment in performing duties.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and library patrons.
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent diploma.
- Five (5) years of experience in administrative assistant work, including some experience at a para-professional Library Assistant level is preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Must maintain a valid Florida driver's license and be insurable by the City’s current insurance carrier.
