As a part-time Library Assistant for our North Valley Regional Library, you will provide routine customer service, service routing, and clerical work for the branch. Your role will be essential in guiding our customers to explore and use library services.

We Require

• Two years of customer service experience
• High school diploma or GED
• A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

• Experience with library-related automation systems and databases
• Experience working or volunteering in a public library
• Experience assisting customers with online account payments and account management
• Bilingual skills in Spanish and English

Job Contributions

• Issue, verify, and renew library cards and inform customers of their account status
• Resolve customer concerns by phone, in person, or e-mail and refer escalated customer concerns to appropriate staff members or supervisors
• Assist customers with the self-service payment kiosk and answer reference questions
• Process library materials for shelving and routing and assist with the maintenance and display of the collection
• Light cleaning duties, such as dusting, straightening, and bathroom tidying
• Initiate search for materials claimed as "returned"

Working Conditions

• Library environment located on the campus of Boulder Creek High School as a joint-use facility (public and students) requiring evening and weekend availability
• Ability to cover shifts at nearby library branches
• Ability to push, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 20 pounds floor-to-waist; lift up to 5 pounds waist-to-shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder-to-overhead, carry up to 10 pounds a distance of up to 50 feet, and push/pull up to 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet
• Must complete a background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to secure and maintain an Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
