JOB SPECIFICS
The Librarian II will serve as lead worker, oversee the daily operation of the Law Library, provides legal information and research services, seeks funding, coordinates public programs and services including legal clinics and continuing legal education opportunities, and serves as staff for the Law Library Board of Trustees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Master's degree in Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association or equivalent and two years of professional Librarian experience one of which must be in a public or private Law Library or in conducting legal research, e.g. paralegal experience. A Juris Doctorate may be substituted for the Master's degree in Library Science with three years of experience working in a Law Library.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
  • One or more years of experience in a supervisory or lead worker capacity
  • Experience using legal research tools and techniques
  • Experience using electronic legal resources, e.g. Westlaw

HOURS / DAYS/LOCATION: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $61,547.20 - $72,758.40 annually
JOB SUMMARY

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide Law Library customer service:
• Respond to requests for information and provide direction to resources
• Provide legal research assistance including use digital resources such as Westlaw or Lexis
• Maintain knowledge of current Law Library issues, best practices and trends
• Develop new services as appropriate
• Provide outreach services to the legal community, the judiciary and the public
Manage the daily operations of the Law Library:
• Provide work direction and training to staff
• Monitor revenues and expenditures; adjust budget accordingly
• Manage grant applications and reports
• Serve as the liaison between the Law Library and the County Library
Maintain the Law Library print and digital collection:
• Select and maintain a current collection of legal research materials according to the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) recommendations
• Track materials usage and adjust legal collection accordingly
• Monitor online legal research use and adjust subscriptions accordingly
• Negotiate and manage vendor service contracts
• Working with the State Law Library and the County Library, catalog new materials and maintain the Library's catalog of materials
Develop, plan and manage programs and services:
• Adjust programs and services based on demand
• Select program topics, schedule events and coordinate speakers and volunteers
• Evaluate programs and prepare program reports
• Serve as a media contact for programs and services
Provide staff support to the Washington County Law Library Board of Trustees:
• Prepare agenda and minutes for Board of Trustee Meetings
• Prepare and present annual budget and annual report to the State for approval
• Present Annual Report to the Board
• Respond to questions and concerns of the Board of Trustees
• Provide periodic reports to the Board on library activities and statistics
Represent the Law Library with the State Law Library and Librarian as well as with other libraries, legal organization, community groups at the state, regional and local levels.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work performed is sedentary in nature, and typically performed within a Library. Lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, calculator, telephone, camera, photocopier and scanner.
Work interruptions are frequent. There is some pressure associated with dealing with individuals who may be emotionally charged and with project or activity deadlines and details. Driving or riding to work at a service center, attend meetings, participate in or lead training sessions, etc. may be required.
