LIBRARIAN II - ADULT (DISTRICT 1 - DISTRICT 6)

CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY

Number of Positions: Multiple

Starting Salary: $ 67,860

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Under supervision performs daily responsibilities that include but are not limited to curating collections for adults ages 20+, including books, media, and technology resources. Ordering material and removing material as needed to maintain an up-to-date library collection. Conducting reference/research assistance for adults. Developing educational and supportive programming for adults, emerging adults, and seniors. Conducting outreach and site visits to connect with the community contracts. Supervising the activities of adult associates and adult librarians of lower titles. May serve as Assistant Manager, in the absence of the Manager, supervising day-to day operation of the facility or department.

LOCATION: Various

DAYS OFF: Two days per week

SHIFT: Will be required to work some evenings and weekends

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science or an approved foreign credential evaluation plus one year of professional library experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

* Experience working a public library

* Experience working in a customer service environment

* World language proficiency

* Previous supervisory experience

* Adult Education experience
