Job Summary

The Acquisitions Librarian provides expertise in the procurement of all library resources and manages the daily workflow for processes related to the selection, acquisition, and data entry of purchased and licensed content. This position trains, supervises, and evaluates the staff within the acquisitions unit, providing direction and support on their activities and resolving issues that impact or arise from other library units. The position compiles acquisitions statistics and collaborates with the head of Collection Development and the Business Manager to provide up-to-date information on resource allocations, on the status of orders, and on authorizing payments. The position identifies where and how materials not available through the library's primary vendors may be purchased or acquired. The work of the Acquisitions Librarian is informed by an understanding of the variety of models for acquisitions and best practices surrounding strategically resourcing academic library and digital heritage collections, as well as functional knowledge of and experience in library procedures, library collection goals, acquisition methods, and University business procedures. All activities are directed toward acquiring library materials in all formats for the use of the library's patrons (students, staff, faculty, community, and beyond).

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$62,100 - $72,000 annual

Required Qualifications
  1. A degree from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association or an ALA-recognized international equivalent
  2. At least one year of experience in library acquisitions or library technical services
  3. Demonstrated experience working with vendors on issues, including purchasing and licensing content in a library and/or higher education setting.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a strongly collegial and participative environment.
  5. Ability to work in an automated environment with multiple systems.
  6. Detailed knowledge of library acquisition models.
  7. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  8. An aptitude for project planning and management, as well as excellent organizational, time-management, and analytical skills.
  9. Knowledge and experience with office software packages, such as Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Familiarity with Alma, the library's unified library services platform and various vendor systems.
  2. Knowledge of and experience with accounts payable and/or procurement processes.
  3. Experience supervising and training others.
  4. Ability to collaboratively plan and coordinate complex workflows.
  5. Experience working within a consortial purchasing environment.
  6. Experience working in an academic library.
  7. Aptitude for accuracy and detail while completing complex procedures.
  8. Experience cultivating relationships with faculty and staff to ensure library resources meet curricular needs.
Work Hours

Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
