Job Duties
- The successful candidate hired into this position will serve as a Legal Secretary in the Correctional Litigation Section and provide administrative and secretarial support for the attorneys in the section.
- The incumbent will also be responsible for filing pleadings including electronic filing in the Western and Eastern U.S. District Courts; Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and state courts which use electronic filing.
- Duties include filing pleadings in state courts by mail, keeping attorneys' files updated, proofreading, processing mail, preparing travel reimbursement vouchers and opening new cases.
- Other administrative duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Competent working knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures and case management systems.
- Position requires well-developed written and oral communication skills, proficiency in time management, the ability to work independently and as a team member, and the ability to organize and analyze large quantities of written and verbal information.
- Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and to adjust priorities without close supervision.
- This position requires the ability to type, familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, and Excel), and the ability to learn to use document management and case management software.
Additional Considerations
- Experience as a Legal Secretary is preferred.
- The preferred candidate will possess experience being a Notary Public.
