- Prepares and maintains assigned files for Court.
- Maintains electronic database for assigned files.
- Procures all information needed for prosecution, including, but not limited to police reports and body camera videos, driving records and criminal histories, laboratory analysis, and prior convictions.
- Subpoenas all Commonwealth of Virginia's witnesses for assigned files.
- Processes requests for continuances and records/updates changes for assigned files.
- Prepares motions and notices in assigned files.
- Pulls dockets of assigned files and distributes to attorneys.
- Maintains filing system for closed files.
- Receives and processes evidence destruction orders.
- Assists with answering telephones, and greets the public, witnesses, and attorneys.
- Processes and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.
- Performs related duties assigned.
EDUCATION: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a high school, supplemented by practical legal/secretarial, clerical and computer experience performed in a professional legal/court environment or related experience in a similar environment considered.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years clerical and computer experience performed in a similar, professional environment.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge and use of standard legal/secretarial office practices and procedures. Ability to process and prepare a variety of legal documents and other general correspondence, possess research skills and maintain accurate records and files. Ability to work independently under strict deadlines, follow verbal instruction, work from marginal notes or drafts, and possess excellent organizational skills. Thorough knowledge and use of business English and legal terminology. Possess good computer skills and ability to learn and use ONESolution RMS program. Proficient in the use of standard office equipment. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Ability to establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with co-workers, attorneys, court employees, law enforcement, other agencies, and the general public and possess professional telephone etiquette.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Requires light physical effort working almost exclusively with lightweight materials (up to 30 pounds) including but not limited to walking, talking, stooping, sitting (for extended periods), kneeling, bending, reaching and gripping. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Office work has no exposure to environmental conditions and is in a heated and air-conditioned office. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic).
