We are headquartered in Chesterfield, Missouri (outside of St. Louis), with an operation center in Columbia, Missouri, and an office in Washington, DC .
Mohela is looking for a passionate and skillful Legal Counsel

What You Will Be Doing
The fundamental reason this position exists is to give legal advice, ensure representation in legal proceedings, prepare legal research and legal and policy analysis of issues to and administer contracts. The Legal Counsel is under the general direction of the General Counsel.
Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Advise on Legal and Regulatory Issues - Assist the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel in providing staff legal advice on legal and regulatory issues and the development of proposed or pending actions, decisions and/or policies organization.
  • Compliance Review/Recommendations - Review and make recommendations to facilitate compliance with all legal requirements. Keep abreast of new legislation and important legal developments and interpret their impact.
  • Explain Legal Causes/Effects - Assist the staff of the organization, in understanding the legal causes and effects of their administrative actions and to provide information about legal developments of interest to Management.
  • Research/Oversee Legal Issues - Conduct and oversee research into a variety of legal issues. Provide analysis of legal and policy issues.
  • Reports/Documents - Write,edit and finalize reports, opinions, correspondence, articles and other documents.
  • Third Party Negotiations - Draft and/or review and negotiate legal documents and contracts (excluding documents related to bond financings) with third parties.
  • Legislative Matters - Work with the General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel, and others upon request, others to provide input on legislative matters. Attend at legislative hearings upon request of the General Counsel.
  • Meetings/Records - Prepare minutes of meetings, obtain signatures of Secretary once approved, maintain official records library.
  • Business Processes - Work with other business units to enhance process improvement and cohesion.
  • Regulatory Responses -Draft formal responses to inquiries from federal and state regulators.

Qualifications:
One-to-two years of experience in a corporate law practice, either with a law firm or in an in-house legal department. Knowledge in banking and finance, as well as regulatory compliance matters. (Knowledge of the mortgage/banking industry, or related financial services industry, is helpful.)
Licensed, eligible to practice or able to seek admission in Missouri required. Admission to a State Bar (with expectation to also gain timely admission to the Missouri Bar).
