Description
This is a hybrid role and does not require employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be onsite 3 times per week. This position has the potential for travel in North America 15-60% of the time.

The Lean Materials Strategies team is looking for an energetic and passionate Continuous Improvement Engineer that will be responsible for leading annual cost reduction initiatives across all North American VAAs & LOCs. We need a bold strong leader who can understand, measure, and challenge existing processes within manufacturing facilities. A major element of this role is to coach, train, and guide supplier’s at VAA & LOCs in completing Global Material Optimization System (GMOS), Flow Planner, Auto-Cad, and APS/STDS systems.
Your work will involve working closely with VAA & LOC suppliers focusing on Material and Production organizations. This job will also include measuring and optimizing material kitting, sequencing, and delivery within the facility using GMOS, APS, STDS and other analytical tools. Being very proficient with Microsoft excel and PowerPoint is essential.
You will need to build new relationships both inside and outside of General Motors, to develop and implement initiatives to reduce waste, and to use your analytical skills to measure and most importantly challenge standardized work.
With these challenges, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to learn new skills, as well as influence the development of manufacturing & Lean Material Strategies to support annual cost reduction initiatives for General Motors.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coach, train, and guide supplier’s at VAA & LOCs in completing Global Material Optimization System (GMOS), Flow Planner, Auto-Cad, and APS/STDS systems
- GMOS data analysis and thorough understanding of Microsoft office tools
- Support material flow planning and labor efficiency improvements at VAA & LOCs
- Implement common Industrial Engineering business practices and processes
- Analyze time studies for Indirect and Direct operators through application of standard time data charts
- Become an expert of the material flow plan within the LOC and VAA sites and their (Plan for Every Part)
- Determine most efficient methods of delivering material from plant docks to final using location
- Analyze layouts and optimize material storage locations for Receiving, Marshalling, Storage and delivery to usage location including material kitting and sequencing operations
- Develop and apply best practices for Lean Material Strategies (LMS) to all aspects of material planning
- Drive Continuous Improvement efforts through elimination of waste (reduce travel distance and total container moves)
- Develop labor plans for annual LOC and VAA supplier productivity
- Develop and implement plans for automation of material delivery
Additional Description
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Industrial Engineering preferred)
- At least 4 years of basic manufacturing, assembly & propulsion processes
- At least 2 years of experience managing material delivery and flow in a manufacturing environment
- Experience dealing with third party LOC and VAA suppliers having familiarity with cost sheets for Continuous Improvement implementations preferred
- Knowledge of and experience in Standard Time Data Systems (STDS), Standardized Work / Assembly Processing System (APS), GMOS and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of work measurement and work standards
