About this Role:
The Teacher Lead will work with teams across all grade levels being served (rising 7th-rising 9th) in what is known as the Middle Grades Bridge Summer program. The Teacher Lead helps to develop math content for students entering grades 7-9 in partnership with approximately three math teachers. Students in the program will be heavily recruited from our seven partner schools; Dunbar Elementary, Duckrey Elementary, Bethune Elementary, McMichael Elementary, Julia R Masterman, Girard Arts Music Program, and George W. Carver Engineering and Science school. Heights programs bring together the academic expertise of faculty and student/staff resources with our mission, focus and expertise in implementing college pipeline programming to bring tangible and impactful resources to students and schools. The Teacher Lead will be instrumental in contributing to our mission by maintaining high-quality standards for math instruction. All teachers will be allotted up to 8 hours of remote preparation and planning time between June 3rd-June 21st.
You’ll be responsible for:
  • Overseeing implementation of curriculum for math classes for rising 7th, rising 8th, and rising 9th graders, including opportunities for project-based learning, assessments and cross-program instructional best practices and routines; Curriculum objectives are made with PA state math standards in mind
  • Observing, coaching, and evaluating math teachers in areas of content knowledge, ability to build student knowledge/skill set to achieve proficiency, classroom management skills, and professionalism
  • Leading professional development for math instructors during staff orientation week
  • Supporting content development for family & student orientation
  • Attending weekly all staff meetings on Tuesday afternoons
  • Meeting with math teachers as needed to discuss instructional feedback and next steps
  • Collaborating with all staff to unify instructional practices and plan for field trips that integrate career exploration and math skills.
  • Collaborating with math teachers to analyze the results of the Computer Adaptive Test to inform instruction.
  • Teaching classes in the event of a teacher’s absence or preparing a Teaching Assistant to do so
  • Developing and retaining high-performing program staff
  • Utilizing and modeling classroom management strategies throughout the day
  • Promoting high expectations of both staff and students
  • Contributing to End of Summer report and proofreading college success rubric reports
  • Organizing end-of-summer math materials for students to take home including IXL account info
  • Other administrative duties as needed
About you:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field with a minimum of 3 years teaching experience
  • Experience in instructional coaching
  • Passionate about making a difference in the academic outcomes of underserved students
  • Punctual, present, and responsible
  • Maintains open and consistent communication
  • Demonstrate organizational and technology skills

  • Must meet PA State background check requirements [PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint Check] at hire and every five years thereafter.
  • Strong orientation to customer service, particularly with regard to students, partners and colleagues
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office and related applications, as well as use of general office equipment (phones, computers, copiers, etc)
  • Fluency in the use of data and data systems. Maintains appropriate engagement with data entry, reporting and review.
  • Must adhere to COVID safety guidelines as established by Heights and/or its partners.
  • Office-based staff should be mindful of the organization’s strong recommendation that staff maintain up to date with COVID vaccination and boosters.
  • Site-based staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must submit to any COVID testing or other health screenings as required by the Department of Human Services and/or the School District of Philadelphia.
  • Must be able to work in a busy, often complex work environment that is generally climate controlled.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Access to reliable transportation required
