Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Security Monitor (LSM) is an unarmed employee that incorporates an observation and reporting approach in providing the highest level of safety and security for all children, employees, contractors, and guests at the residential care facility. The LSM engages employees and leadership at the facility in providing professional security expertise and recommendations in areas including but not limited to employee and children security responses, addressing facility vulnerabilities to comply with federal, state, and local law enforcement and other governing agencies, emergency action plans, and facility drills. The LSM ensures that all security staff is scheduled accordingly per shift and moves to each shift as needed for temporary fill-in and to observe shift duties and trends. LSM ensures each shift provides a documented update from each shift so that LSM can offer a detailed report to the Chief Administrator or designee on the findings per day. The LSM collaborates with the security team to provide a solution to all issues presented. The LSM must adhere to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), and Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) for Security Guards. The LSM must strictly enforce and adhere to ORR’s Zero Tolerance Policy regarding abuse and neglect and all relevant ORR policies and procedures always ensuring the safety of the children and youth.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises, trains, and mentors the Security team.
  • Creates weekly and monthly schedules and approves requests for leave, ensuring security coverage.
  • Follow all corporate policies and procedures as required by state and federal contract requirements.
  • Recommends updates of the organization’s operations, maintenance, and security procedures to maintain safe operating and working conditions.
  • Conducts monthly security inspections and maintenance on security equipment to prevent a lapse in service.
  • Conducts facility security vulnerability assessments, facility (Fire and other emergency) drill participation, and inspections of facilities security equipment (cameras, access control), then recommends solutions.
  • Acts on timely repairs approved by PD or designee to enhance safety and security.
  • Recommends, coordinates, and conducts security training that encompasses quicker response time in dealing with uninvited guests, facility intruders, and even active shooters. • Responsible for collaborating with leaders in developing, updating, implementing, and reviewing the effectiveness of the organization’s Security Operating procedures (SOPs) and assuring compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Provides management direction for major security violation assessment, security policy development, and comprehensive accident investigations and security assessments.
  • Develops, analyzes, and manages security analytical trends and recommends solutions to negatively impacted trends.
  • Collaborate with the site security team in preparing monthly security vulnerability reports for leadership.
  • Participates in inter-departmental and supervisory meetings to ensure organizational cohesiveness.
  • Coordinate with the leadership in preparing emergency preparedness standards for the facility.
  • Interface with other public agencies, associations, and groups, assuring the organization’s security standards reflect the latest industry trends, regulations, and technologies.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by ensuring adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested by leadership to support the facility.

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be a brand ambassador and always reflect company values.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven facility security managerial role experience.
  • Experience using relevant technology and equipment (e.g., CCTV, electronic access control monitoring).
  • Conduct probationary 30 day and annual employee performance evaluations.
  • Experience in performing organizational security vulnerability assessment tools such as iAuditor.
  • Familiar with federal, state, and local laws regarding camera surveillance and access control.
  • Exceptional knowledge of security protocols and procedures.
  • Experience in reporting and emergency response planning.
  • Enforces safety and security standards for youth, staff, and visitors.
  • Experience organizing and managing various assignments and projects with high efficiency.
  • Thorough attention to detail and following through with short deadlines.
  • Must be able to develop, write and present detailed professional security reports, materials, and correspondence.
  • Must maintain any licensures/certifications during employment and obtain them within required timeframes, if approved.
  • Ensure completion of On-the-Job Training requirements.
  • Meets dress code/uniform standards; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Complete any training requirements including Managing Aggressive Behavior/NRCYS and CPR/First Aid.
  • Maintains dependable attendance and ability to work a flexible shift schedule.
  • Assist in the safe evacuation of youth if needed.
  • Guide in responding to emergencies to ensure the safety and security of the youth.
  • Wear an ID badge while on company property or job sites.
  • Recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and provocative behavior. Follow reporting requirements for relevant state and federal contract requirements and document, adhering to time frames.
  • Must maintain confidentiality in all program areas, including any youth information.
  • Maintain confidentiality of health care records and information in keeping with HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements.
  • Maintain professional conduct and ensure appropriate, respectful interactions during any contact with youth, staff, state licensing representatives, ORR/Federal Field Staff, and other vendors or community members.
  • Adhere to Responsive Deployment, relevant state and federal (ORR) Policies and Procedures.
  • Clear MVR Check.
  • Clear criminal background check. Including a national criminal fingerprint background check.
  • Clear drug and alcohol testing results.
  • Clear Tuberculosis results.
  • In adherence with federal or State contract requirements (as applicable): Proof of COVID Vaccinations and other immunizations (i.e., varicella, measles, mumps, tetanus, Tdap, rubella, Flu, Hepatitis A and B).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Earned a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum experience of 5 years in a security managerial role and at least four (4) years of experience with high levels of security or extensive experience performing related physical security, preferred.
  • Experience as a private security guard, law enforcement (city, county, or state level), or armed forces military police officer) preferred.
  • Meet all requirements as listed in the Licensing And Regulatory Affairs (LARA) for Security Guards. • Excellent Driving Record.
  • Show a history of organizational skills and an ability to communicate accurately and effectively with multiple team members.
  • Well organized, highly motivated, excellent communication skills, leadership skills that also display integrity.
  • Display the ability to understand and retain information relayed in training, daily shift change, and departmental or program meetings.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Shifts will include an 8-hour shift in person (on-site).
  • Being on call on a rotating basis may be required for this position to support sick or scheduled vacations for Security Monitors on different shifts.
  • The work week may not consist of a traditional Monday through Friday work schedule, and working some holidays will be required.
  • Work is conducted in a 24-hour shelter with children whose primary language is Spanish. • Noise levels will vary indoors and outdoors.
  • Position can require a great deal of standing, walking on uneven, rocky surfaces, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 lbs. It can also involve sitting for extended periods to ensure documentation is promptly entered.
