Salary: $22-$25/hour (EEC Lead Qualified Teacher) | Hours: 8:00-4:00, Monday - Friday

Stony Brook School welcomes experienced and collaborative Early Childhood Educators to apply for an opportunity to join our team as a full time co-teacher for our Reggio-inspired Preschool. The lead teacher will work in collaboration with their co-teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, play based learning environment for children ages 2.9 - 6 years. Following our schools anti-bias mission and Reggio Emilia inspired approach, the lead teacher is responsible for facilitating an emergent and developmentally appropriate curriculum that meets the social and emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of the children. The lead teacher will work closely with each child’s family to maintain a positive relationship and open communication.

Professional Qualifications:
Candidates should hold or be working towards a degree in Early Childhood Education or a directly related field, have a background or familiarity with emergent curriculum. Understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach and the guiding principles is a plus. EEC Teacher Certification preferred; CPR and First Aid Certification required within 1 month of hire.
Position Details:

Open to trying new approaches and discovering ideas to create better explorations. Understanding of strengths within a teaching team, and able to ask for support where needed.

Intuitively able to physically and mentally position oneself in order to manage an entire learning space. Able to transfer learning from one situation to another. Able to establish goals, clarify tasks, cooperatively and independently plan work/curricula, and actively participate in meetings and staff development. Ability to document and share observations on each child, and reflect upon and effectively share the learning that is happening.
Proactive: A motivated facilitator of classroom spaces and provocations that engage children in curiosity and making connections. Able to demonstrate developmentally appropriate best practices in the fields of early childhood education and emergent curricula. Open to change and a seeker of opportunities for self-development that enhances job performance.
Physical Requirements: Work requires close visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e. light custodial duties, snack distribution, classroom set-up and safety, general supervision and wellbeing of participants) or to make general observations of facilities, participants or environment. Ability to lift 35+ pounds. Must be able to climb, stoop, reach, stand, lift, feel, communicate appropriately, and be capable of repetitive motion. Assist in classrooms, field trips, and outdoor explorations, as needed. Able to walk, bend, stand, squat or sit on the floor with children throughout, at least, a 6-hour day. Able to walk up and down steps several times each day. Able to physically respond quickly in an emergency. Understand the risk of exposure to blood and bodily fluids and use universal precautions in such instances.
