Boeing Global Services (BGS) Digital Analytics & Solutions Organization is hiring a Lead Predictive Maintenance Systems Engineer to join our team. As a lead Systems Engineer in the BGS Engineering you will have the opportunity to lead Boeings technical approach for commercial aircraft Predictive Maintenance capabilities. A key aspect of this position also leads the Prognostic Research Collaboration Program (PRCP) team which is tasked with developing, validating and deploying prognostic alerts to airline customers for top fleet reliability/maintenance operations/service interruption issues. The Prognostic Research Collaboration Program is a BGS program currently engaged with over 30 airlines (and growing) that uses regularly sent flight sensor data to productionizes and deploys data signatures that indicate a failure with enough lead time for airline operators to be proactive in the optimization of their maintenance operations.

This position offers exposure to all aspects of airplane design and operation, mainly focused on researching and deploying prognostics of our products during operation in service. The importance of this function can’t be over-stated as you will contribute to improving the airline experience and mitigating schedule interruptions experienced by the flying public.

Deliver of Predictive Maintenance capabilities include consideration of the intended performance of the airplane design, published operational and maintenance guidance, alert communication via AHM/email and supporting meetings with participating customers. Frequent engagement with our data science group, the AHM group, functional team experts and representatives from the Airlines make the position highly invigorating. We have a close-knit group in this highly collaborative teaming environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of local and international software developers to work together to enable the deployment and tracking of 787, 737 MAX, 777 as well as military aircraft prognostics

  • Coordinate closely with Boeing functional groups, management and executives, supplier management, and airlines to ensure all stakeholders are aligned on the alert status and the proposed action being communicated

  • Participate in Industry Conferences to share Boeings Predictive Maintenance vision and capabilities

  • Lead technical integration of airworthiness credit offerings

  • Engage with our airline customers to ensure the customers can make an informed decision on how and when to react to alerts and also provide the team feedback on the alerts with regular meetings.

  • Partner with Aircraft telemetry translation engines (MAESTRO), Data Science, and AHM team to continuously improve our processes and tools to ensure we are ready for growth in the future

  • Act as a champion for improving top fleet in-service issues

  • Develop team cohesiveness by guiding the team, incorporating / encouraging innovation from team members, and supporting the growth of all team members.

  • This position requires the ability to communicate complex technical issues with a large variety of audiences, to lead a group of diverse engineers and non-engineers, and to apply airplane level thinking to a variety of technical issues. This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry AND 5 or more years’ of related work experience OR an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (Ex: PhD, Master’s + 3 or more years’ related work experience

  • 3+ years experience communicating with management at all levels

  • 1+ years of experience do you have managing and/or leading a team either formally or informally, with the ability to provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):

  • Experience with the commercial airplanes certification process

  • 5+ years of experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting instrumentation systems for military and/or commercial aircraft programs.

  • 5+ years of experience with Google Cloud, Azuare, Tableau, Power BI, and other data mining / modeling tools

Typical Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
