About the Position: Serves as Lead Emergency Services Dispatcher responsible for providing emergency police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment.

Duties
  • Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers until appropriate emergency field units arrive.
  • Instruct callers on various advanced life support procedures to include CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, emergency childbirth, opening an airway or controlling bleeding.
  • Determine appropriate jurisdiction and services to be rendered.
  • Transfer caller to proper agency and/or variety of emergency equipment to include police, fire, ambulance, rescue or hazardous materials units.
  • Advise employees on specific duties and job techniques and makes available written instructions and reference materials.
  • Distribute workload among employees in accordance with established workflow.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) evaluate 911 emergency calls to determine problem and nature of call, 2) perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency units arrive on scene, 3) determine patients chief complaint and initiate immediate emergency response life support as appropriate, and 4) maintain continuous telephone contact with caller during emergency situations and gives instructions regarding what to do, what not to do, prior to the arrival of pre-hospital care providers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
