Workplace Status:

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Technical Center three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The SDV Team:

The Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) team supports the definition, design, and development of continuously improving mobility services. SDV is a new vehicle intelligence platform that will underpin all our future innovations across a wide range of technological advancements, including EVs and expanded automated driving. This means that you can potentially put a fingerprint on the vehicles that drive down the road!  Within the Software Defined Vehicle, GM is developing the next generation of embedded platform software to deliver state of the art Infotainment features on the Ultifi platform. This role requires high level of expertise and capability in software coding, development, issue resolution, debugging and analysis for root cause.

The Role:

The Lead Development & QA Engineer will embody GM behaviors and competencies and be proficient in understanding embedded development environments and be able to actively code. They will technically lead the team and work with other teams while building strong relationships. The Lead is passionate about software development and its quality. The Lead Development & QA Engineer should be familiar with tools in Linux, Android and embedded application software. They need to be nimble to change as we adopt agile methodologies in the software organization. The candidate will be able to envision and design custom test frameworks using Robot and BDD test methodology.

What You'll Do:

  • Design and develop reusable Automation test frameworks in Linux, Android and QNX environment using C++/Java Code and Python scripting language
  • Lead and generate technical test solutions for infotainment software components for all new and major programs
  • Technically lead team in debugging test issues and support software development team in solutions to the issues found
  • Eager to learn new technologies and implement findings in the day to day activities
  • Performs as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead Warren DEVQA efforts

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree.
  • 5+ years’ experience with software development experience in automotive and/or portable consumer electronic devices in embedded domain.
  • Experience in Software development (languages such as C++, Java and Kotlin) and deploying products in global markets.
  • Experience in scripting languages such as Python, Shell
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Experience in continuous integration, Test Driven Development /Behavior Driven Development.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git, Gerrit and GitHub
  • System-wide triage experience and Leading Agile software development processes.
  • Demonstrated performance in a position requiring both high creativity and engineering technical excellence.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Advanced engineering degree
  • 6+ years of experience testing software applications, specifically Infotainment
  • Experience infotainment automotive diagnostic
  • Understanding of automotive protocols like CAN/LIN/Ethernet
  • Understanding of tools to capture and analyze automotive communication
  • Previous test experience with real-time or embedded applications
  • Good operating system knowledge of Android and Linux
  • Experience with Robot/BDD testing framework
  • Experience working on global teams
