In this role, you will work with teams to apply machine learning to digitally transform our business processes and the client experience of ADP’s products and solutions. You will assist our innovative software engineers in solving real-world business challenges using advanced machine learning techniques so our clients can run smoother with greater insights. You’ll be accountable for something significant: products that impact people’s lives.

No two days are the same. Everyday projects range from deep learning, research & development, algorithm development, natural language processing to DevOps. We want to provide access to the right tools and inspiration so you can solve complex problems creatively. 

To thrive in this career as a Principal Data Scientist (Generative AI) for the Innovation Labs team, you will apply your knowledge of Python and other object-oriented programming languages to ADP projects. You should have experience using deep learning, natural language processing, or machine learning systems. You’ll mentor junior-level engineers that join the team and help them find their niche. Our best engineers in this role are independent thinkers and proactive problem solvers, and as a senior team member, you will be a role model for these behaviors. Pace should not scare you. We still find time for a healthy dose of fun, and our efforts have led to some of the latest innovations at ADP.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Here’s what you can expect on a typical day:

  • Teamwork and mentorship.You will be part of a thriving team, where you give junior team members the space to balance the ability to think independently and creatively while also working together as a team. You’ll provide mentorship to them get familiar with the team, environment, and resources. Once they are comfortable and confident, you will give them more challenges to take on.
  • Collaborate and Build. You will collaborate with engineering and product teams in an Agile environment to lead, design, and implement advanced machine learning (ML) solutions supporting an effortless client experience and creative insights. You will contribute to the overall ML architecture, infrastructure, data pipelines, and APIs for our solutions. 
  • Product Ownership.You will participate in analysis through the delivery and support of machine learning solutions. You must keep up with timelines and project standards. You’re proactive and hands-on, providing technical leadership where necessary. When you see a potential issue, you never leave things hanging and unfinished.
  • Discover. Define and implement machine learning infrastructure and models to uncover patterns and predictions, creating business value and innovation.
  • Variety of work. You could work on various projects that could include deploying facial recognition, voice recognition, identifying more sophisticated models, learning a new technology, or any other project our team takes on.
  • Experience. You have 4-6 years of experience in relevant skills gained and developed in the same or similar role.

TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other STEM field with minimum 5-10 years of industrial experience 
  • Strong background in research, evident through publications or significant project contributions.
  • Ability to quickly absorb new research findings, essential for practical application integration.
  • Continuous commitment to learning and adaptation to new technologies and methodologies, crucial for staying at the forefront of the field.
  • Prior experience building machine learning system including model training ,model inference, model monitoring, etc
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP) frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugginface Transformers, etc
  • Latest Large Language Models (LLMs), such as GPT3.5-turbo, GPT-4, Anthropic Claude 3, Llama 3, etc
  • Prompt engineering and LLM evaluation using tools as LangChain, LlamaIndex, DSPy, etc
  • Experience with AWS services (SageMaker, Lambda, Glue, EC2, CloudWatch, etc) and Databricks (or MLflow) is desirable
  • Machine learning packages with modern programming languages (preferable Python) such as Sklearn, Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib
  • Code Version Control System like Git, Bitbucket, etc
