Position Description:

Lilly is designing and building a new state of the art Parenteral, Device, and Packaging Assembly Facility in Raleigh-Durham North Carolina.  This is an exciting opportunity to help build a state-of-the-art facility and Quality System from the ground up. 

Responsibilities:

As the Lead Engineering Technician – Device Assembly, you are responsible for the automated equipment performance, providing a front-line support to production processes, as well as supporting area engineering initiatives, process improvements, and project implementation. This position will require the development of expertise in production processes, commissioning, qualification, and validation requirements, reliability best practices, and mechanical assembly expertise. The Engineering Technician will help ensure that equipment is maintained in a qualified state, can be operated safely, and maintenance is properly performed on the systems.

 

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Work 12-hour shift rotations with the operations and maintenance team (2 days on-2 days off-3 days on-2 days off-2 days on- 3 days off schedule)
  • Assure that operational and maintenance procedures and practices reflect safety concerns.
  • Perform activities in accordance with cGMPs and applicable procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality using equipment performance data and by assuring maintenance is performed appropriately.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels to ensure all tasks on the lines are well planned and coordinated with minimal disruption to that area involved.
  • Working with the process team, including engineers, maintenance, quality, and operations personnel.
  • Participate in and lead development of equipment design, procedures, and maintenance practices that will enable the process to operate as required.
  • Seek out and identify opportunities to improve equipment operational effectiveness and reliability. Identify and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Monitors specific equipment signals / measurements that will improve the PM program’s success rate measured by reduced unscheduled maintenance.
  • Create/Improve repair and spare part lists with specific inventory level given historical demand, supplier lead-time, component costs, and risk to business stoppage.
  • Provide technical support to engineering in:
    • Providing front-line support to equipment related issues that will occur during operational production runs.
    • Transferring knowledge of equipment capabilities and operational techniques to operators, engineering, and maintenance.
    • Implementing tools for operations and engineering to learn and work more proficiently.
    • Contractors and vendor coordination.
    • Create maintenance action plans as needed to support maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
    • Support equipment planned downtimes to implement continuous improvement and planned maintenance activities.
    • Plan and execute small projects for process or equipment improvements or changes.
    • Mechanical expertise to provide process and equipment improvements with machine assemblies and design

Requirements (Education, Experience, Training):

  • Experience in a GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledgeable in using process monitoring tools to analyze equipment performance.
  • Experience with Maximo or similar computerized maintenance management system.
  • Knowledge and compliance with safety requirements (LOTO, live equipment troubleshooting).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; proficient at typing and writing technical documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and attention to detail and ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and communications skills with a customer service attitude.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, working safely and accountable for supporting all HSE Corporate and Site Goals.

Education Requirements:

  • Associates Degree (or equivalent work experience)

 

 

Preferred attributes but not required:

Additional Preferences:

  • Previous experience with highly automated equipment.
  • Experience with PLC, HMI, motion, and robotics programming.
  • Experience in electrical and controls troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of high-speed Device Assembly or Packaging equipment and manufacturing operations.
  • CAD/SolidWorks experience for machine drawings modifications.

Other Information:

  • Ability to wear safety equipment (safety glasses, safety shoes, protective gloves etc.).
