Overview
Position Summary: The Language and Cultural Rep under supervision, provide interpreting services in a culturally sensitive manner to facilitate communication and the relaying of medical information between speakers of different languages at CHLA; and provide written translations as required in patient encounters such as translation of medical instructions and medication schedules, and any hospital related administrative correspondence with patients/families ,including information, education and documentation materials. Collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Complies with applicable office and hospital policies and procedures particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent.
This position is a 12 hour shift for the Emergency Department. The current schedule is Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 9:00 am to 9:00pm. 36 hours per week. Bilingual Spanish Required.
Minimum Qualifications: Experience interpreting and translating in a healthcare setting, including experience working with the community and/or a target language population with a diversity of cultural/socio-economic backgrounds. Experience as medical interpreter with strong medical vocabulary. Effective written and verbal communication skills in English and the designated foreign language. Demonstrated ability to translate and interpret medical terminology. May be required to interpret for patients representing the full range of developmental and educational levels.
Education/Licensure/Certifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related discipline or any area related to science or human services preferred. Completion of a minimum of 40 hour Healthcare Interpreter training.80% -85% Score for Language Proficiency from a vendor selected by CHLA.
For spoken language interpreters: Healthcare Interpreter National Certification or highest national credentialing (where applicable by language) through CCHI or a national organization
For ASL interpreters: ASL Interpreter Certification through NAD-RID. Translator Certification (where applicable by language) through ATA.
Pay Scale Information
USD $44,304.00 - USD $76,544.00

Final determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
