DESCRIPTION: Gaston School District is seeking an enthusiastic Language Arts Teacher (1.0 FTE) for grades 7-12. An Oregon endorsement in English/Language Arts and/or ESOL (or comparable endorsement) is required. Any additional content area endorsements is preferred but not required. An Art endorsement is strongly preferred. This position is primarily a secondary ELA position but the candidate may teach English Language Development (ELL) also.

Gaston School District is a small semi-rural district with about 515 students in grades K-12. Gaston is located just south of Forest Grove about 1 hour inland from the Oregon coast, 1 hour west of downtown Portland and 30-45 minutes from Beaverton and Hillsboro. Gaston offers easy access to the Portland, the coast, skiing, Oregon wine region and other recreation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Oregon Teaching License, valid for the position with highly qualified status.
• Demonstrated instructional skills, including strong reading, writing, and math techniques and strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, and parents.
• Ability to collaborate with grade level team mates, as well as with other staff (e.g., in lesson and program design).
• Demonstrated work initiative and leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to assess students and use data for instruction as well as excellent computer skills preferred.
• Willingness to serve on building and/or district committees.

COMPENSATION:

Placement on the negotiated licensed salary agreement, plus insurance and related benefits as described in the negotiated contract. Currently in contract negotiations, so exact pay is yet to be determined but will be higher than amounts posted.
