Job description

We offer a competitive salary with bi-annual step increases of approximately 2.5% up to top salary step of $84,260annually.

  • Recruitment Bonus - Newly hired employees from this recruitmentmay be eligible to receive bonus payments up to $2,000**

The Land Use Services Department is recruiting for Engineering Technicians IV who perform limited professional engineering duties in the Building and Safety Division. These positions provide customer service to the public, participate in meetings with the public, research and answer engineering related questions, provide information regarding requirements, and review plans. Assignments within the Land Development section may review and complete technical, hydrology, and drainage studies; review grading plans; evaluate road and drainage conditions; perform field investigation on drainage complaints; and coordinate conditioning for new developments and street improvements associated with land development. Plan Check assignments function as assistant project managers on Building and Safety projects; review plans for building and construction projects and permit applications; review plot plans for conformance with County Development Code; ensure design reflects mapped hazard overlays; verify necessary reports and studies are submitted; and ensure required utilities are available.
A current vacancy exists in Land Development; list maybe used to fill other vacancies as they arise throughout the Land Use Services Department.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background: Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Incumbents must make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced by the individual providing the transportation and maintained during the course of employment.

*Salary increases contingent upon Property Related Revenue and/or statewide Realignment Sales Tax Collections performance.
Education: Fifteen(15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework in civil engineering, engineering construction technology, or a closely related field (for example: physics, chemistry, math). College transcripts MUST be included with your application if a degree has not been conferred in a qualifying area. Applicants with college coursework completed outside the United States MUST also submit an equivalency report from an accredited credential evaluation service with the application.
-AND-
Experience: Candidates must meet the Education requirement and one of the following options:
Option 1: Three (3) years of full-time technical civil engineering or closely related work experience which includes the application of engineering formulas, theories, and practices to design, plan review/plan check, construction, inspection, or repair work pertaining to development and/or improvement plan projects.
Option 2: Three (3) years of full-time experience as a Senior Land Use Technician in San Bernardino County or in an equivalent position as a lead worker explaining regulations and reviewing development or construction plans for conformance to regulations and development/building codes.

Substitutions:
An additional 15 semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework as described above OR successful completion of the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
OR

One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.
Note: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in project management for construction projects, have excellent customer service skills, and be familiar with San Bernardino County Development Code. Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, engineering construction technology, or a closely related field is highly desirable.
