Job description

Under general direction of the Chief Engineer I, CF, the Laboratory Technician (Chemical Analysis), must have knowledge of and experience in collecting preparing and analyzing various water samples as required by the California Regional Quality Board and those required to control operation practices for the water and wastewater treatment process. Administer all applicable codes. Take samples and make routine quality and quantitative chemical and bioChemical Analysis of water and wastewater by standardized and predetermined methods. Make necessary arithmetical computations. Prepare standard reagent and chemical solutions. Filter and weigh samples preparatory to analysis. Clean and assemble laboratory apparatus and glassware. Record test data and keep records pertaining to analysis as required by regulating and certification agencies. Assists the Water and Sewage Plant Supervisors in Plant Operations and conducts tailgate Safety meetings weekly. Other duties as required.

CMC has two physically separated housing complexes, commonly referred to as "East" and "West". An emphasis is placed on providing all inmates with programs for self-improvement. These programs include academic and vocational education, work skills in prison industries and inmate self-help groups.
The Level III housing complex (East), which houses medium security general population inmates, is divided into four facilities. Each facility has its own dining room, classrooms, athletic fields, and two three-story housing units. The East housing complex has a fully licensed Correctional Treatment Center as well as a fully licensed 50 bed Mental Health Crisis Unit.
The West housing complex contains a Level I camp program for fire suppression, conservation, and other community service work.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Eligibility Information

Minimum Qualifications
Either I
Education: Equivalent to two years of college including completion of introductory laboratory courses in organic and inorganic quantitative chemistry. (Applicants who have completed one year of college will be admitted to the examination, but they must produce evidence of completion of the second year or its equivalent before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)
Or II
Two years of experience as a technician in a chemical or biochemical laboratory.
Or III
Experience: One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Senior Laboratory Assistant; and
Education: Completion of nine semester units or 12 quarter units of college level introductory courses in organic and inorganic quantitative chemistry.
Or IV
Experience: Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Laboratory Assistant, Range B ; and
Education: Completion of nine semester units or 12 quarter units of college level introductory courses in organic and inorganic quantitative chemistry .
Submit a copy of college transcripts that show that you have taken the required classes with your application.
