Lab Specimen Processor

-Night Shift-

Seeking a skilled Lab Specimen Processor.  Is that you?

 

Work location: 251 Westpark Way Euless TX 76040

Work hours: Full Time Nights Monday through Friday 7:30 PM to 4:30 AM (No weekends, no holidays)

Here's What You Need so

         High school diploma or equivalent is required.

         6 months of customer service experience is required or

         6 months of experience in a high-volume testing laboratory and data entry is required

         6 months of previous lab processing experience in high volume laboratory is strongly preferred.

 

What You Will Do

         SPECIMEN PROCESSING:

o    Receives specimens from clinics as the courier drops them off.

o    Ensures correct data entry as each specimen is received into the lab software system.

o    Checks for proper name, collection date, and correct samples.

o    Prepares all send out specimens for pick-up to reference labs and ensures proper handling of specimens according to in-house or reference laboratory protocols.

o    Create electronic manifest in LIS.

o    Sorts all in-house labs to various departments, placing specimens in appropriate racks.

o    Documents all samples that do not meet quality criteria on the sample rejection log.

o    Follows laboratory processing procedures at all times

o    Prepares cooler/dry ice in a manner that is consistent with the safe handling of dry ice that is outlined in the Texas Health Physicians Group Laboratory dry ice procedure.

         PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

o    Investigates problem orders from the clinics and provides necessary corrective action. Documents all actions taken on problem log.

o    Pull samples for add-on testing and ensures proper paperwork is received from ordering physician to document the add-on request.

o    Ensures that all specimens to be sent to reference labs meet testing criteria.

o    Cleans individual work area at the end of the evening and documents on the cleaning log

o    Cleans/documents centrifuge maintenance as required by CLIA/CAP.

o    Restocks work area at the end of the shift.

o    Notifies supervisor when running low on inventory/supplies before it runs out.

o    Disposes of biohazard waste in a manner that is consistent with the Texas Health Physicians Group Laboratory Biohazard Trash disposal policy.

o    Helps to scan additional samples into SSR when necessary.

o    Completes all assigned tasks by the completion date requested by laboratory management.

o    Notifies the supervisor/manager of any problems or issues that require escalation.

o    Scan reqs into media software; perform and document periodic checks to ensure scanning is successful.

o    Interpret and update pathology requisitions with POST OP notes from physician/surgery center

o    Accession and add/combine tissues in LIS

o    Separately manifest to allow for specimen tracking to Quest for all tissues

o    Identify source discrepancies and leave for Lab Administrator to review/resolve

o    File pathology slides in file room

o    Review/reconcile/send out any slides for outside consult

o    Scan all notes and supporting documentation into SOFT using Media program

         QUALITY REQUIREMENTS:

o    Participates in the annual competency assessment challenges and receives a satisfactory mark for passing the challenge.

o    Maintains the integrity of patient confidentiality that is consistent with the HIPAA policy.

o    Works in a manner that is consistent with the Texas Health Physicians Group Laboratory Quality Management system.

o    Minimizes data entry errors and corrects reports that are the result of inaccurate data entry or labeling.

o    SAFETY STANDARDS:

o    Adheres, at all times, to Universal Precautions guidelines when working in the laboratory.

o    Abides by the guidelines of the Chemical Hygiene Plan when working with chemicals in the laboratory.

o    Adheres to all safety standards and SOPs.

o    Becomes and stays familiar with the Hazard Communication regulations.

o    Follows all OSHA safety guidelines when working in a testing environment.

o    Follows Texas Health Physicians Group Laboratory ergonomic policy to minimize the potential for MSDS.

         NIGHT SHIFT DUTIES

o    Sorts incoming samples from clinics accordingly

o    Each processor should be capable of processing 350-400 requisitions/shift with extensive attention to detail with no errors/mistakes. **subject to change based on workload** (10 processors = 3500 reqs per night)

o    Identify clinic errors for sample submission and take appropriate corrective action.

o    Provide feedback to quality manager regarding patterns of incorrect sample submission for investigation.

o    Identify incorrectly labeled samples and work with the supervisor for possible resolution to avoid TAT delays.

o    Use coordinated judgment with supervisors to resolve sample issues on Friday to avoid time related sample rejection due to short sample stability.

o    Perform data changes for samples collected at Quest PSC in a timely manner.

o    Troubleshoot PSX stamps for specimen reconciliation when discrepancies occur.

o    Consult Quest website for alternate test codes for troubleshooting problem orders.

o    Perform end of the night reconciliation of duties for tissue, micro, PAP's
