Job Duties
The Department of General Services (DGS) is seeking a Lab Specialist for the Data IT Support group at the Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS). As the state public health and environmental laboratory, DCLS provides support for local, state, and federal partners with the mission to promote a healthier, safer world through quality laboratory service. The Data IT Support group provides pre analytical support by entering and verifying data from over 100,000 samples per year submitted for newborn screening, clinical and environmental analyses. The group is also responsible for post-analytical reporting of test results as well as customer service support at DCLS.
The selected candidate will perform pre-analytical duties of sample accessioning, data entry and then post-analytical processing of computer-generated test result reports for all groups at DCLS. The incumbent will provide focused support for newborn screening and environmental testing; respond to inquiries from internal and external customers; track timeliness of workload; and maintain department inventory. This position will also assist with maintaining documents to meet QA/QC policies and DCLS record retention policies. All DCLS safety rules and regulations must be upheld at all times.
Hours of work are typically 8 hours per day/5 days per week Monday through Friday.
In addition, weekend and holiday work is required on a rotational basis.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices for the handling of chemical, microbiological, infectious, and toxic materials
- Demonstrated experience using multi-line telephone with strong telephone skills.
- Skill in the use of computers and MS Office (to include Outlook, Word& Excel)
- Skill in the use of standard office equipment (to include fax and printers)
- Experience with keying alphanumeric data entry with accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability providing customer service with problem resolution and troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow procedures, prioritize the work of others and identify errors.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully function independently and in an open team environment with various noise levels.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
Additional Considerations
- Knowledge of clinical and/or environmental laboratory testing
- Experience as a team lead.
- Experience accessioning laboratory samples accurately
- Experience using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Experience handling confidential records.
