Job Description
• Maintains confidentiality at all times.
• Performs routine technical procedures as assigned following standard operating procedures.
• Performs tests accurately in an organized and efficient manner.
• Keeps up-to-date with procedure updates.
• Serves as a technical resource for Laboratory Associates.
• Reports tests accurately in writing, orally and/or in the LIS.
• Demonstrates knowledge of LIS.
• Follows established guidelines for reporting STAT results and critical values, properly documenting calls.
• Credits tests appropriately using correct workload exclusion codes.
• Reviews testing logs and completes tests within shift.
• Performs daily, weekly and monthly equipment and instrument maintenance/calibrations according to protocols.
• Follows recommended manufacturer's and/or department defined instrument performance checks and calibrations prior to testing.
• Makes adjustments or minor repairs with the aid of instrument manuals or technical service by telephone.
• Performs, evaluates and reports QC protocol. Identifies and resolves QC failures.
Minimum Qualifications Required
ASCP certified/eligible
• Associate's degree in Medical Lab Technology or equivalent related field of science.
• 1-2 years of related experience with hematology or chemistry in an accredited clinical laboratory (high complexity).
• Experience performing lab computer tasks and scheduling.
• LIS (Laboratory Information System) computer experience preferred.
• Ability to work with detailed procedures.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory, Biological, Chemical or a related science
• Hematology/Oncology experience preferred.
• Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
• Ability to relate to diverse patient populations.
