About the Position
The role of Lab Tech at Empress encompasses all of the facets of day-to-day Lab Operations. This position will require an ability to think on your feet. You will be constantly adjusting your existing plans to align with the changing needs of a very dynamic lab environment. Independent decision making will often be a part of your day. You will always be supported by the Lab Operations team at large in this. Self-confidence and humility are key aspects of the successful candidate.
You will be participating in regularly scheduled operations team meetings. Your input to these meetings is extremely valuable. We want your ideas. Along with the rest of the ops team, you will be attending meetings on strategic planning for the labs development. Bring your ideas for what will make us more valuable to this one too.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct responsibilities will include intracompany communications with the research staff. Shutdowns, reorgs, etc will be communicated clearly to the entire R&D staff.
- Communication by email, meetings, and electronic ticketing will all be expected.
- Full ownership of the routine maintenance of all the lab equipment.
- Emergency repair needs will be communicated to the rest of the ops team for a solution.
- The coordination and supervision of contractors within the lab environment.
- Tracking incoming and outgoing goods to maintain the consumables inventory system is of great importance to this role.
- Monitoring consumable usage rates and reporting that information back to the ops team. Of particular importance will be the bio and hazardous materials waste streams. Understanding the regulatory environment as regards those waste streams is a plus, but we will train if needed.
- You will be on the safety committee where you will participate as an active member in quarterly committee meetings and weekly EHS consultant meetings. Along with the rest of the ops team, you will report and respond to any safety issues that you are made aware of.
- As an ops team member, you will participate in emergency response training, and act as a member of the emergency response team.
- In general, you will take responsibility for the smooth operation of the Empress labs. From gas inventory to LCMS environment upkeep to cleaning BSC's, it's all yours. General lab cleanliness and lab compliance are expected.
Qualifications:
- High school Diploma
- DOT/RCRA and Hazwoper training preferred
