Diablo Clinical Research, Inc., an independent research facility, is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and efficient Laboratory Assistant who has excellent phlebotomy and sample processing skills. Experience working with clinical research protocols is a plus.
At Diablo Clinical Research, we conduct Phase I-IV pharmaceutical/biotech studies across multiple therapeutic areas (diabetes, obesity/weight loss, cholesterol, vaccines, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, neuropathy, migraines, healthy volunteer, devices and more).
We have a staff of 3 MDs (2 endocrinologists and 1 internist), 1 PA, 5 research coordinators, 3 regulatory specialists, 4 internal QA/QC personnel, 1 research laboratory specialist, 1 RD, 3 pharmacists, 4 research assistants plus additional administrative staff to support our site in the accurate and timely execution of our study protocols.
The Laboratory Assistant tracks laboratory kits and supplies as well as receipt of lab results for multiple studies. Our Laboratory Assistant assists the Research Laboratory Specialist with phlebotomy for research subjects enrolled in clinical trials and follows the detailed processing techniques associated with each specimen per the study protocol. This person assists with preparation of laboratory specimens for shipment to outside labs per the protocol requirements or prepares them for refrigerator/freezer storage. The Laboratory Assistant may also process POC blood and urine samples from study participants at our on-site lab.
This position requires flexibility, excellent organization/communication skills and attention to detail.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
· Performs phlebotomy/venipuncture duties for research subjects as needed (maintains valid and updated phlebotomy licensing)
· Assists with processing of laboratory specimens (centrifugation, pipetting, creating slides, etc.)
· Assists with preparation of lab kits and lab supplies for protocol required lab collections.
· Tracks receipt of laboratory results and assists with filing.
· Stocks lab supplies - unloads and organizes lab supplies in on-site lab supply storage room; maintains an inventory of lab supplies and re-orders when needed; assists in purchasing new equipment and supplies as needed
· Performs point of care laboratory testing such as HbA1C, glucose, hematocrit, dipstick urinalysis, pregnancy testing as required
· Assists with tracking and maintenance of sample inventory logs for ambient and frozen specimens shipped to central lab(s)
· Maintains inventory of lab supplies and orders lab kits and lab supplies as needed.
· Participates in research related meetings and training as a member of the research team; assists in the development of detailed lab manual describing the biospecimen processing protocols.
· Maintains and updates IATA certification for proper packing and shipping of lab specimens for the clinical trials
· Responds to laboratory queries.
· Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications/Certifications:
- California Certified phlebotomist (current license)
- Excellent phlebotomy skills
- IATA certification a plus
- Organized and attentive to detail
FT Monday - Friday; some evening and/or weekend work may be needed.
Knowledge: Preferred knowledge of the design and conduct of clinical studies.
