JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
1. Demonstrates ability to consistently meet work schedule demands in the clinic.
2. Obtains adequate blood specimens from patients using appropriate specimen collection and
handling procedures.
3. Labels all specimens in accordance with clinical laboratory standards and Clinic policies and
procedures.
4. Prepares specimens for delivery or delivers to appropriate laboratory areas.
5. Within scope of training, performs laboratory testing utilizing laboratory equipment in
accordance with Clinic policies/procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
6. Performs Quality Controls and Quality Assurance within scope of testing.
7. Performs computer functions to support collection and processing of specimens.
8. Able to function proficiently within Centricity, Allscripts and Orchard systems.
9. Maintains awareness of own safety in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Adheres to
universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures.
10. Assumes accountability for enhancing own knowledge through workshops, in-services, etc.
11. Maintains patient confidentiality and uses discretion in patient interactions.
12. Promotes a positive, professional image of The Iowa Clinic both internally and externally.
Promotes positive interpersonal relations with all personnel.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
1. Maintains awareness of workload of co-workers and offers assistance as appropriate.
2. Maintains a working knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the Receptionist with an
ability to perform the functions in the event of an absence or increased workload.
3. Shares in the responsibility of keeping work areas clean, neat and professional in appearance.
4. Performs other tasks as assigned.
