Lower School Teacher (Kindergarten- First Grade) Announcement
Academics West is searching for Special Education Teachers for our Lower School (K-1 Class) who will be responsible for direct instruction that is designed to address goals and objectives specified in the students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and/or follow the NYS Common Core guidelines. The ideal candidate is bright, energetic and motivated to help children with learning and emotional challenges. The applicant should be committed to learning and infusing our Clinically Informed Academics model into all daily instruction.
Start date: End of August 2023
The Academic West Teacher primary function is to educate our students using the most up-to-date pedagogy. Teachers are expected to engage students and assess their knowledge in academic content as defined within the course description. Educators will collaborate with the educational clinicians to develop and implement appropriate classroom management plans. It is expected that teachers will go beyond the classroom and model the Academics West mission and philosophy. These individuals are expected to have strong foundational knowledge of our CIA model and implement it within the classroom. Teachers will directly report to the Associate Director of Education.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and implement appropriate lesson plans and meet objectives.
Welcome potential new students and engage them as they complete trial days. We are a rolling admissions program.
Collaborate with Admissions Department with new onboarding students
Write weekly progress reports on each student
Responsible for classroom management oversight
Frequently consult with the clinical team about student’s therapeutic needs
Review student’s neuropsychological report, LSP and SAP (i.e., CIA profile) to utilize the data to inform student instruction
Attend IEP meetings and submit supporting documentation as needed
Required to attend all student and staff meetings
Required to attend all Professional Development Days
Assess student progress throughout the academic year
Manage Teaching Assistant to ensure they fulfill their daily obligations
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field
3 + years experience teaching students with special educations needs preferred
New York State (or other US state) Certification in Special Education Certification (K-3rd grade)
Behavior management training preferred (i.e., CPI training or other methods)
Work Hours:
Monday through Friday 8 AM-4:00 PM
