Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) Gems - prepares our youngest scholars to succeed in K-12 and beyond by building a strong academic foundation and starting them on the path to college and career.
The Pre-Kindergarten Teacher will bring a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy: to get all our scholars to and through college. The ideal candidate cares deeply about children, respects the culture of Harlem's residents, and is eager to make an impact in Harlem and beyond.

REQUIREMENTS

• Master's degree required, preferably in Education
• New York State Early Childhood Education Teaching Certification (Birth-Grade 2)

Who you are

• Previous early childhood classroom experience, preferably in an urban setting
• Knowledge and understanding of the curriculum
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

What you'll do

• Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play
• Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips
• Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
• Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and needs, determine their priorities for their children, and suggest ways that they can promote learning and development
• Provide structure in the classroom by developing and clearly enforcing rules and expectations for class discussion and activities
• Follow the program's policies and procedures for student conduct and discipline
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
• Participate effectively and collegiality in department meetings and parent meetings
• Provide a nurturing environment and model positive behavior for students

Schedule

• Monday - Friday, work hours 8:00 am- 4:00pm or 10:00 am - 6:00pm

In addition, we provide our educators with the resources they need to be successful. You will receive a personal laptop, smartboards, and tablets; bi-weekly professional development; and the support of a team of academic coaches, deans, guidance counselors, and social workers who are committed to ensuring the success of all our scholars.
The salary range for this position is $65,000-$90,000 per year.We offer a $6,000 signing bonus (after 60 days of employment)and highly competitive salaries with generous performance-based bonuses, a comprehensive benefits package, and a low student-teacher ratio.
