Kennel Technician

Have you always wanted to learn more about the veterinary industry and enjoy working with animals? Bastrop Veterinary Hospital is looking for a hard working, enthusiastic person to join our team. Full-time and part-time kennel assistant positions are available. Bastrop Veterinary Hospital is a locally-owned and operated mixed animal veterinary hospital in historic Bastrop, TX. Our 6-doctor practice is fast-paced and growing quickly. We are expanding our team to keep pace with the increasing Bastrop area pet population.

Our kennel assistants are essential to our day-to-day function of our hospital. This is an entry level position where growth to other technician or client service representative positions are available.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Perform daily cleaning tasks throughout the hospital

• Facilitate feeding, play times, clean kennels, perform nail trims, and give baths to boarding animals

• Clean kennels as the need arises

• Help with technician appointments such as nail trims, anal gland expression, medication administration, and vaccines

• Greet clients in person in a warm and professional manner when receiving or returning pets

• Providing excellent customer service for our clients and their pets

• Communicate protocols and recommendations from our veterinary team to clients

• Troubleshoots, handles, and follows up on problems as they present. Seeks assistance with solving problems as necessary while taking responsibility for facilitating the outcome.

• Tackling other projects as assigned

Qualifications:

• Entry level position.

• No education requirement. Students are encouraged to apply.

• Friendly and hard-working attitude.

• Punctuality and motivation important

• No veterinary experience is necessary, but some animal experience is preferred

• Work efficiently in a busy hospital environment

• Access to transportation for errands

• Maintain calm demeanor during emergency situations. Demonstrate compassion

• Perform and document basic financial calculations accurately.

• Tech savviness essential as records and appointment scheduling is digital

• Effective communication skills

• Must be able to life over 40 lbs

• Position requires being on your feet for extended periods of time.

Hours:

• The position requires a mix of opening and closing shifts (office hours are 7am to 6pm M-F)

• Required to work 2 Saturdays a month (office hours are 8am-12pm)

• Shared, short, holiday and weekend shifts to assist hospitalized patients and boarding pets
