Kennel Attendant - Evening Shift

I Heart Dogs is a non-profit, no-kill dog rescue located in Warren, MI (9 Mile/Groesbeck Hwy). We have staff at our shelter from 8:00 am to 8:30 pm every day. The daily shifts are from 8am-3:30pm, 12:30pm-8pm, and 2:30-8:30pm. You would be required to work at least one weekend shift per week and some holidays (holidays are paid at 1.5x pay rate). We are looking for applicants with a flexible schedule and are hoping to find an applicant who would prefer the afternoon shifts. This position can be full-time or part-time, your choice!

Employees are provided with 5 shirts to wear at work, one pair of non-slip shoes or boots per year and are given one paid day off for their birthday! We are also investing in paid training and development for all employees. Employees are also given a discount on adoption fees if they choose to adopt one of our dogs or cats!

We have a 9,000 sq ft facility with about 60 dogs and 15 cats in our care at any given time. The job is very aerobic and fast-paced!

We are no-kill and work with dogs that have behavioral issues, including aggression, rather than automatically euthanizing them. Our focus is on training, socialization, and enrichment. We are a strictly positive reinforcement training facility.

Duties:

· Performing daily building and safety checks

· Feed, water, medicate, enrich, and nurture animals in our care

· Clean, disinfect, and remove feces and urine in kennels throughout the day

· Brush, bathe, trim nails and maintain the general physical health of animals

· Ensure dogs receive ample yard time

· Partner dogs with play buddies (other dogs) in yards and maintain their safety by managing their play

· Maintain a clean and orderly work environment by sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping down surfaces, taking out garbage, picking up feces, putting away donations, etc. - cleaning is at least 50% of the job!!!

· Facilitate introductions with potential adopters and their pets

· Wash dishes

· Perform vaccinations, microchipping, and other basic medical procedures (we can train you!)

Qualifications:

· Applicants MUST have professional dog experience in places such as vet clinics, boarding facilities, training centers, daycare facilities, animal shelters, etc. This does not include taking care of your personal pets, but can include volunteering at animal welfare organizations! Please make sure to include any experience in your resume!

· Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment is a must

· Requires an upbeat, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude

· Must have exceptional time-management skills

· Must be a team-player, but also be capable of working independently with minimal supervision

· Must not be fearful of dogs (or cats) of any breed, size, or age

· Ability to handle dogs up to 100 lbs required

· Basic understanding of canine body language preferred

· A high school diploma or GED required

· Reliable transportation is a must

· Maintain regular and punctual attendance

· Reliable work history that includes at least 6 months of employment at prior positions

· Ability to work on your feet for up to 8 hours

· Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs with no restrictions

· Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, and some holidays. Preference will be given to applicants with flexible schedules.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $14.50 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 38 per week
