KENNEL ATTENDANT
JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY: The Kennel Attendant is responsible for the compassionate and attentive care of the animals at all times, and will maintain a clean and healthy environment for all animals and the public, and will assist with other duties as needed.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
- Follow all policies and protocols, work effectively and efficiently.
- Anticipate and tend to the needs of the animals, provide food and water, and follow special diets as needed.
- Assess the temperament of the animals, and find the best placement in the shelter for them.
- Monitor the health, appearance, and behavior of the animals, and report any changes to the Managers.
- Assist with the movement of animals throughout the shelter.
- Assist and partake in the training of volunteers
- Transport animals to and from vet (If 21+ years old)
- Administer medications to animals
- Maintain a friendly demeanor and provide professional customer service to visitors wishing to adopt a pet.
- Work courteously and cooperatively with other staff members, volunteers, management, and Board members.
- Stock Supplies and take care of donated items as needed.
- Humanely restrain animals for vaccinations, examinations, and blood draws.
- Clean kennels and common areas throughout the whole day as needed.
- Play with animals and exercise dogs.(This includes many dog walks throughout the day)
- Fill in for any areas that need help on your work days.
- Janitorial duties, including laundry, dishes, washing windows, sweeping/mopping all areas, and cleaning general shelter grounds (sometimes including shoveling snow).
- Attend events off-site and sell merchandise, adopt out animals, and interact positively with the public.
- Attend and partake in any staff meetings.
- Bathe animals Daily
- Take pictures/videos of animals
- Engage in enrichment activities with dogs during afternoon hours, including but not limited to puzzle boxes, lick-mats, frozen bones, swimming/playing in an outdoor pool in summer, basic obedience training.
- Communicate via walkie-talkie with the Director and co-workers.
- Assist the Shelter Director, Assistant Director, and Kennel Manager with additional tasks as needed.
- Always treat animals humanely, properly, and with compassion, regardless of the situation or circumstance.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $10.33 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
