Summary
The K-9 Handler Lead is responsible for day-to-day operations of the K-9 Unit which includes maintaining, training, and utilizing two Narcotic Detection and Patrol Canines at various locations within the organization. The K-9 Handler Lead monitors and evaluates the performance of the K-9 Handlers in addition to the Canine’s themselves. This position will assist with implementing protocols, procedures, policies, and monitoring to include documentation of the team’s training and activities within the unit.
Essential Functions
- Oversight of K9 equipment/resources and monitors budget and tracks expenses related to the operation of the unit to include care of the canines
· Patrols, responds and records incidents that occur at properties to enhance program efficiency
- Training of the handlers and the canines to include documenting all training and/or ensuring documentation meets expectations
- Collaborate with different departments to conduct searches at various locations
- Assist and liaise effectively with departments, law enforcement agencies, and local partners or their representatives
- On time completion of assigned training and policies
- Performs other duties assigned
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of security experience.
- At least 2 year of Canine Handler experience.
- At least 1 year of leadership experience to include training, performance management, counseling and retaining an engaged and accountable workforce.
- CA Guard Card certification.
- OC and Baton permit.
- Intermediate user of MS office and Power Point
Able to work with flexible schedule due to department needs- Minimum of 3 years of driving experience; possesses a valid California driver's license; and has no Class 1 or more than two Class 2 violations within the past 36 months.
- Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion
- Problem-solving skills with an analytical thought process
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
