The Saklan School is a small, progressive, independent, non-profit school accredited by WASC and CAIS. Saklan serves grades preschool through eighth grade, with one class per grade level. Our average class size is twelve in the Lower School (K-5) in the Middle School (6-8) 15. Our classroom teachers are solo practitioners who value the importance that connection and social-emotional well-being play in a student's growth. Overview of Position
The Saklan School is currently seeking a Performing Art teacher. Candidates must be fluent in progressive educational theory and practices, be culturally competent, and have previous classroom teaching experience. We are seeking candidates who are reliable, adaptable and have a nurturing and supportive tone with students.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Teach music and Performing Arts classes to Grades K-8
- Yearly, direct and plan a LS Musical (grades 3-5) MS Musical and Whole School Concert
- Participate in Saklan’s Bi-Monthly Whole School Assemblies
- Filling the role of Middle School Advisor for 6-8 students
- Provide differentiated, varied classroom instruction using a multi-modal approach
- Provide clear performance objectives that will be widely understood by students, parents, and administrators alike
- Facilitate the social, emotional, and academic development of students within the classroom using Responsive Classroom procedures to managing the class and any student behavior issues
- Develop and implement student assessment methods that will consistently and continuously provide a basis for evaluating and reporting student progress
- Coordinate with Dean to deliver academic and social-emotional support for students
- Contribute to the community beyond the classroom
- Communicate with constituents in a timely and professional manner
Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate will have the following characteristics and skill set:
- At least two years of exemplary classroom teaching experience and a valid teaching qualification
- Understanding of project-based learning

- Experience in designing and teaching an integrated curriculum
- Experience in adapting curriculum to different learning styles

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
