Junior Software Engineer (Food Waste/Climate Change)

Leanpath, the global leader in food waste prevention solutions, has an immediate opportunity for a Junior Software Engineer to join the team.

So how do you, as a Junior Software Engineer, help to end food waste? You bring your skills to bear at Leanpath, a company who’s already fighting food waste with thousands of installations of our hardware-backed SaaS solutions worldwide. 

Leanpath has a unique, patented set of hardware that we have deployed globally in the fight against food waste. Our “Trackers” are custom designed devices that  transmit data from the kitchen to the Cloud, where it’s converted into a number of insights and reports which help our customers make better decisions in the way that they prepare and serve food. We also offer a powerful suite of behavior change tools to ensure that food waste prevention becomes a daily habit, changing the culture of the kitchen to drive a more waste-aware, efficient operation.

What do we need from you?

It’s really important to us that we get the “right person in the right (virtual for now) seat” for our small yet nimble team.  So, our job descriptions tend to be a bit specific, but even if you don’t check all the boxes, we’d still love to hear from you!

The skills to pay the bills:

• Experience (one of the following):
  • 1 year of development experience in a backend (Java) or full stack capacity (Javascript/Java) or JVM based language
  • Bachelor's Degree  in Computer Science with a solid internship foundation
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Mathematics
• Experience with relational databases and SQL
• A solid understanding of test automation
• Experience working with containers (Docker)

• You have experience working in an Agile environment
• You have a healthy level of paranoia around quality
• You have great communication skills, and aren’t afraid to use “radical candor” (practicing kindness, no jerks allowed) with your peers and especially your leaders

You might be a unicorn if you also:

• Don’t mind working on the odd front-end ticket in Angular
• Have experience working with Micronaut
• Have experience working with PostgreSQL
• Have experience working with Google Cloud
• Have experience with Kotlin (we use it for test automation)
• Have experience with data science, specifically machine vision

Sounds great so far, how far do I have to commute?

This is primarily a remote position but preference will be given to candidates in the Pacific time zone for collaboration & team alignment.
