Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The Development Engineering team conceptualizes, designs, qualifies, and implements manufacturing processes for new or existing products. Development engineers work to ensure product designs meet all customer requirements, including thermal, mechanical, and electrical requirements. Consideration is taken to ensure the project is on budget, on-time, manufacturable, and reliable. Development engineers must be able to retain their knowledge and remain current of new industry developments related to design and manufacturing. They perform duties in all stages of the Development Engineering cycle.
Junior Development Engineers focus on learning the skills and procedures required to become independent in their role. Responsibilities are task-oriented, and support higher level engineers who will serve as mentors. The Junior Development Engineer focuses on development of new manufacturing processes, working with technicians on a day-to-day basis. The personal development of a junior engineer is focused on learning engineering software and furthering design knowledge.
WORKING PROCEDURES:
- Support projects, initiatives, and continuous improvement activities that drive development of new materials or processes.
- Assist in the development, improvement, and standardization of manufacturing processes
- Assist in the qualification of new processes
- Develop training material and implement/oversee process-related training of operators
- Presents work orally to senior Development Engineers or managers, occasionally to customers.
- Provides of analytical or experimental results used within portions of technical reports.
- Learn software for 3D CAD systems, FEA, Spice, etc. as needed from senior Development Engineers or managers.
- Works with vendors to clarify drawing requirements.
- Design and development of new fixtures and tools.
SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
- Frequent contact with other engineers, technicians, and operators. Works under daily supervision.
DIRECTION OF OTHERS:
- This position does not entail supervision of others, however, Junior Development Engineers will frequently direct technicians, operators, or maintenance personnel with the assistance of SWR's, ECN/TDCN's and/or maintenance work requests.
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS in relevant engineering field required.
