Job Summary:
- Joining Engineers with Volvo Cars Manufacturing Engineering are part of a global production team that makes sure that the cars we build meet the highest expectations from our customers. Joining Engineers support new model Launch & Program Management.
Principle Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and improve both local and global standards within your area.
- Coordinate and follow up commonality between global car plants, central Manufacturing Engineering and local Maintenance group.
- Develop and implement joining control plans to establish quality assurance.
- Coordinate with other major activities within the area.
- Share knowledge and experience, and offer trainings accordingly, to improve capability and competence of local engineers.
- Maintain good communication within the area and other parts of the organization (Subject Matter Experts, Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance).
- Participate in the execution of technical maintenance functions and maintenance technical management in order to optimize equipment availability and cost control of production assets.
- Consistently use visualization standards in order to provide transparency on performance and challenges in your area.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to supervisors/technicians and operator maintenance.
- Collaborate with Maintenance to define and update preventative/corrective maintenance programs.
- Align with R&D regarding all Joining Quality & Repair Methods.
- Assist and follow up with handover process toward Production.
- Demonstrate personal leadership in support of company business objectives and role model the Volvo Cars Culture.
- Split/share responsibilities of various joining processes with other Joining Engineers on the team.
Job Specifications:
- Welding Engineer who successfully completed the qualifications for AWS B5.16:2006
- Preferably a Welding engineering or a Bachelor's degree in Production/Automation Engineering or similar.
- 5-7+ years of expertise in Body Shop manufacturing/automotive industry.
- Exceptional project management and leadership skills.
- Joining Experience/preferred knowledge Joining Quality assurance (NDT and DT).
- Broad joining knowledge. Joining processes at Volvo include:
- Resistance Spot Welding
- Resistance Projection Welding
- Laser Welding
- Remote Laser Welding
- Laser Brazing
- Gas Metal Arc Welding
- Drawn Arc Stud Welding
- Flow Drill
- Self-Piercing Riveting
- Roller Hemming
- Adhesive Bonding
- Robot joining equipment/tool experience.
- Resistance Welding gun and Inverter knowledge. Beneficial if ARO/ABB weld guns and Bosch/Matuschek weld timers.
- Working experience in international and diverse environment is a plus.
- Experience of Manufacturing Engineering process and Facility, Tooling and Equipment process.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on an occasional basis.
